Elsie Dagmar (Hiro) Zak January 17, 1918 - February 11, 2016 Elsie Dagmar (Hiro) Zak passed away in Allyn, Washington on February 11, 2016 after just entering her 99th year on the planet. She is survived by three sons, Bill (Debbie) of Allyn, John (Nancy) of Puyallup, and Gary (Tina) of Seattle, and six grandchildren, Bob Zak, Wendy Burgoyne, Anthony Zak, Sara Strom, Caitlin Zak, and Bowen Zak. Also, seven great-grandchildren, Clint, Jake, Kacey, Kaylee, Kelsie, Leif, and Carlie. She was predeceased by her husband Felix, her parents John and Lempi Hiro of Chisholm, Minnesota, and her brother Edwin Hiro, a WWII P-51 Mustang "Ace" who was killed over the skies of Germany in 1944. She was a much-loved mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Elsie was born and raised in Chisholm, Minnesota and worked in Minneapolis, where she met and married her husband Felix in 1942. As a proud military wife Elsie traveled around the country, making a wonderful home for her boys despite family separations. She was a proud American, with her husband, brother, and three sons serving a total of over 50 years as US Army officers. Elsie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Puyallup. She was also a proud Finn, having traveled to Finland twice to visit with relatives. She embraced Finnish culture and passed that love and respect to her family. She enjoyed a loving extended family in Washington. Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, at Mountain View Funeral Home (Garden Chapel), 4100 Steilacoom Blvd., Lakewood, WA 98499, with reception to follow.
