Tuomo and Jouko Juntunen have been visiting the UP of Michigan gathering information for their genealogy book project. Their first book covered the phases of Juntunen family from 1500-1700, written by Matti Kankaanpää and was completed in 1998. The second book, comprising the 19th century, was completed 2005 by Jarmo Paikkala. Now the records for the third book covering 1900 to the present are being collected by Juhani Juntunen. All Juntunen descendants are asked to send their family records to him by email: juhani1112%40gmail.com

During their trip to the US, the brothers drove their rental car around the upper midwest and lower Michigan following the footsteps of Finnish immigrants and their descendants. They started in Chicago and were in such places as Tawas City, Michigan and Finland, Minnesota. What surprised them the most were the enormous distances. They drove 2600 miles in eight days. They were also impressed by how much people yearn for genealogical information.

Re: Juntunen family. There is a huge Juntunen family here in Thomson Township Esko Minnesota. Some of them may have passed through Michigan before moving on to Esko Minnesota. The heads of these families were Edwin, Hjalmer and Joseph. All raised huge families. Many of the offspring are still residing here. Lloyd Rontti

I hope those Juntunen family members contacted the address in the article, in case Juhani Juntunen doesn't have their info. in his database. The article also appeared on Facebook as well as the Finnish American Reporter newspaper, which is read by a lot of Finlanders in the US.
