Looking for Ann and Leonard Johnson in Tacoma. Ann (Anna) came from Pensala, Finland. Her brother was Gunnar. I think Gunnar was married to Esther and they had a son, Hal..don't know their family name.
Ann and Len lived on 3602 south cushman avenue in tacoma at least until 1971. From a letter I found out that Ann was turned 72 in nov 8 1970/71, don't know to which envelope the letter belongs to since I have two different :) That means she was born either 1898 or 1899. Any kind of information would help..

Cate,
Is it possible that Ann was not born in Finland? I found some interesting info that would have her and her siblings born in Idaho. Father August Larson from Sweden and Sophia Katherine from Finland. Matching birth date for Anna Augusta Larson born 8 Nov 1899 in Gem, Idaho. Brother Gunnar John Larson born 5 Sep 1911 in Wallace, Shoshone, Idaho. Other siblings Harry Jacob Larson c. 1902 died 6 Feb 1931 in Seattle. He was a Merchant seaman for Puget Sound Freight Lines. Oscar A Larson born c.1903 died 11 Sep 1946 in Tacoma. He too was a merchant seaman. I found a divorce for a Gunnar J Larson and Esther V Larson 30 Jun 1969 in Washington. Gunnar died 22 Aug 2002 and is buried Lakewood, Pierce, WA. I also found a possible marriage for Anna and Leonard Johnson on 5 Nov 1944 in Pierce, WA . She is listed as Anna E A Larson of Idaho. In 1900,1910 Larson family in Idaho, in 1930 in Christopher, King, WA, in 1940 Anna and Gunnar are in Tacoma. Interesting.

Cate,
Found a marriage 1896 for an August Larson and a Sophia Liljestrom from Finland in Pueblo, Colorado. It matches the census info on years married. 1900 Census says she was born Sept 1870.

Could Anna have been married earlier too? Or maybe just late.. No children I assume.

Cate,
I don't find any earlier marriage for Ann. In 1920-30 and 40 she is single. 1920 she and brother Gunnar are in Christopher, King, WA, but must have moved to Tacoma shortly after as they are in Tacoma by 1930. Marriage record for Leonard and Ann doesn't specify if either was married previously. I did not find a marriage record for Gunnar and Esther, only their divorce in 1946. says Esther's maiden name Reeseman and there was 1 child, no name. Gunnar filed. Anna, Leonard and Gunnar are buried in same cemetery. Here's a photo of Gunnar attached to his Find-a-Grave entry.

Check the WA Secretary of States website records. It is sos.wa.gov at the top of the main page click on archives, on the list, click on online archives. You will get a form. Enter their name(s), etc. and if the records have been transcribed, you will get every public record for either of them. I don't know if you are familiar with Washington so Tacoma is in Pierce County and I have never heard of Christopher, WA. King is the county in WA. King County includes Seattle, Renton, Auburn, Kent, etc.

Sandie,
Thanks for the tip. Apparently Christopher was a precinct in King county, WA in 1920.

My next thought us to figure out who Leonard Johnson was, born 15 Jan 1896 and died 27 Jun 1969 in Tacoma. My grandparents called him Lennart..Maybe he is the one who is related...? Or if his parents were the ones who left Finland and Leonard was born in the usa..

Success. I found her and son Albert buried in cemetery at Fort Steilacoom, WA. Albert died 15.Jan 1939 of psychosis epileptic, clouded state. Catherine died 16 Jul 1939 of pulmonary tuberculosis. August is buried there also, but no stats listed on Find-a-Grave. From Death Certificates of Finns in Pierce county, WA. Catherine Larson born 10 Sep 1867 and died 16 Jul 1939. Widow of August Larson; parents Jacob Liljeström and Anna (Finland) No headstones for them.

Cate,
The only Jacob Joh. Liljeström I was able to find is a marriage in Fredrikshamn and Veckilaks 8 Nov 1850 Jacob (svenska) and Anna Esaiasdotter (Staden finska) There is only one birth for them in that location, Johan born 1851. Jacob was probably a soldier and the family moved. Limited info for that parish.
