Can someone please help with translating this notation about a cousin from a 1863 death record. "drunknad i England utanför Hull, begravden derstädes" I believe he drowned while emigrating to Hull, but I don't know what derstädes means. I assume it concerns where he was buried. Thanks for help.

It means: "drowned in England outside Hull (not necessarily emigrating), and buried at that location".

Alf,
That was my thought also. I see no other reason he would be there. Wonder how/why he drowned? Thank you. Happy Easter to you and your family.
Karen
One obvious reason for him to be there is that he was a seaman. For instance I found out that my great grandfather spent a certain night in an English harbour on board a finnish ship. It happened to be a date when the census records were collected. It was around 1870.
