Finnish adults are losing the battle of the bulge. Nearly three-quarters of men and two-thirds of women over age 30 are overweight; 26% of men and 28% of women are obese. This means that every other Finnish adult stores too much abdominal fat. Children in Finland are also too chubby - almost a quarter of children and adolescents carry too much weight.

Finnish kids like school. More than half of young people and kids said they enjoy attending school and they felt that teachers were interested in their lives. Fourth and fifth graders, as well as vocational students, were most likely to enjoy school. But officials say that levels of bullying in schools remained steady last year. Seven percent of fourth and fifth graders reported they had been bullied at least once a week.

Scientists are exploring the benefits of lingonberry. The berries are rich in vitamins B, C, K. They are fiber rich and aid digestion and may reduce cholesterol. They are also used as an antiseptic, diuretic and as a tonic. They are used to treat gastrointestinal symptoms, kidneys and urinary tract infections. They also pack a punch of folic acid.
