Hello to all,
I hope this will get through-this is my first message in the new format.
The Consulate General of Sweden publishes a quarterly newsletter, edited by Olle Wastberg, called fresh! from Sweden. It contains many Swedish cultural and other goings on in the U.S. and Sweden. You can subscribe to it at info%40freshfromsweden.com. and they mail you a copy.
The Fall issue has an item Of Poetry and Prose, Swedish Literary Greats Visit United States, about two of the greatest poets writing today in the Swedish language, Arne Johnsson and Tua Forsstrom. They are both reading at Other Words: 3rd San Francisco International Poetry Festival, on Sept. 27.
I'm posting this because they mention-Forsstrom, born in Finland but writing in Swedish, has received more prizes and awards than any Finnish poet of her generation. I wonder if she might then be a Swedish Finn? She was born in 1947 in Borga, but that's about all I've so far been able to find out about her. I found one book of hers Snow Leopard, published by Blood Ax, from Newcastle, England, but that's the only book of hers in English I've found.
Is this someone we can claim I wonder? Does anyone know more about her? Maybe she would be interested in the SFHS and the Finlander site?
I hope this is the correct place to post this-it seemed to be?

Hello again to all,
Well, I just found the following about a book entitled-
After Having Spent A Night Among Horses by Tua Forsstrom.
This collection of poems took Finnish author Tua Forsstrom five years to write and is among the most noted of contemporary collections of Finnish-Swedish poets. Claes Andersson-poet, psychiatrist, pianist and cultural minister-has written of her: Forsstrom writes more beautifully than almost any poet I know perhaps because she knows that what is important happens on the periphery, in small shifts and breaking points, at the edge of the void.
I am interested to learn about Finnish-Swedish poets and wish I knew more.

Alan,

I read that this book is very good: "Ice Around Our Lips: Finland-Swedish Poetry" by David McDuff - available through Amazon.com. It's a paperback published by Bloodaxe Books Ltd. I've seen these names mentioned: Bo Carpelan, Henrika Ringbom and Edith Sodergran.
