Hi, I'm searching for a Johan Anselm Krokbäck, born on the 25:th of March 1887 in Lappfjärd, Finland. He emigrated to America in 1905 and was still alive when he was 93 years old, that is in 1980.

Hi,
If you know where he went in America, perhaps some information can be found on church microfilms at Swenson Swedish Center here i Rock Island.

Hi Synnöve,
Do you have any information about this man? Maybe a spouse's name?

I only found one match that was only slightly close. A John Beck in Iron Mountain, Michigan in the 1930 census. He was 43, from Finland, spoke Swedish, immigrated 1907 and was married with a family. Wife's name was Mary.

Maybe with a little more information, we might be able to find him.

Thank you, this man is my husband's mothers uncle. I have only this information from church in Lappfjärd and I got from a finnish newspaper that he was he alive still as 93 years old, but there was nothing about where in U.S.A. I think he was Swedishspeaking. I have to ask my husband's aunt and uncle if they know something more....

found at Swenson S 27-3 = Iron Co, Crystal Falls, Finnish Lutheran (merged with Swedish to form United Lutheran)
code: b58=page 58, book 2, h=husband, w=wife.

b58mh John Beck Aug 24 1905 age 23 years Finland unk S 27-3
b58mw Maria Granberg ditto age 21 years Finland unk S 27-3

This John and Maria Beck were married August 24, 1905. John at age 23 so we do have a difference between this age and that given on the census. That has occurred before. This marriage is recorded at the Crystal Falls church but it does not mean the couple were married in CF because Rev. Hoikka traveled far and wide administering to the people.

Hmm, now that I look closer, this is likely not your Beck. Age 23 in 1905 puts his birthyear as 1881-82 but I will leave them here in case somebody else looks for them.

He could also have used his patronymicon. As a familyname.

I am coming into this query late, but we have Johan Krokbäck who emigrated in 1905 in the Emigrant Register of the Institute of Migration.

His destination was Virginia, MN.

The passport record is consistent with the passenger record.

There were two other persons with stated destination Virginia, MN on the same date on the Polaris, namely Isak Lähdesmäki and Alexandra Lahnaviik.

I did not find Johan Anselm Krokbäck there.
I also checked out John Back but he was not your man.

In the MN Naturalization Index 1854-1957, I found a Josif Axel Krokback in Duluth County. Reel 23, Code 59, Vol 27, Page 226. Maybe a relative??

In checking further on the Immigrant Register Passports and Passenger lists, there are 5 Krokbäck entries from Lapväärtti. Emil Johansson Krokbäck, born 1873, Erland Krokbäck, 1875, Johan Anselm, 1887, Josef Axel, 1885 and Ivar Krokbäck-Ågren, 1884. All with Amerika as destination. All travelling between 1900-1905. Surprisingly, Josef's passenger entry has his destination as Port Arthur, Ont, Can. He obviously ended up in MN at some point.
