Can someone read this and tell me what it says? I just posted my GEDCOM to TALKO and found all kinds of good stuff, but I have no idea what this says. Thanks for your help!!! (If there's a location where some of this is translated, that would be very cool.)

består av följande fyra hemmansnummer: Storgård No 1 ,Bredarholm No 2 ,Blässar No 3, Rif No 4.
tegelbrukshantering ' .
Storgård,.Även brodern Matts Mårtensson blev under ofreden

Dear Rikki,
Appreciate your gedcom. Hope others follow suit. The input has been terrific in the previous months. We at SFHS use it a lot!

The homestead in e belong up to (?) The year 1670 to the village of k but was separated in the above named year into a special village, which was named e after the ancient island. The village, which is one of the smaller within the p parish, consists of the following four homestead numbers: Storgård no 1 ,
Bredarholm No 2 ,
Blässar No 3,
Rif No 4.

The structures within e have not always lain on the place in which they now are located. Some time, during the middle of the 1600's, an expansion outwards was undertaken, whereby all the farms except b, whic lay on a special "island", were moved to entirely new lots. The old lots where thereafter developed as fields. As a secondary income source residents of e in older times among other things had worked at producing bricks. The existence of serviceable clay in the area made possible this economic source of income, which surely has had great importance as extra source of income. Still today the old "brick house/factory" stands besie the road which leads to the village in the vicinity of s farms. The largest homestead in e is s. It was taxed in the end of the 1500's for 22 units of sowable fields, together from the beginning of the 1600's when new systems of assessing taxes was installed, for one entire mantal. In the beginning of the 1700's the homestead was divided voluntarily into two parts of 1/2 mantal each and somewhat later was divided in 1749 one half was further divided into two parts of 1/4 mantal (each). It was first in 1749 that separating the homestead into the above mentioned three parts was legalized.

During the period of the great unpeace, the people at s had moved away to the larsmo archipelago. One of the farmers, p m, who stayed behind on order to guard the farm, was stabbed to death by the russians, who additionally burned the home, the stable yard, and four other buildings at s. Even the brother m m was stabbed to death during the unpeace, and a couple of other people died of starvation. The first known owner of the homestead is m p born about 1530.

M is mentioned for the first time in a list of mantals in 1575, and was then the farmowner of the homestead of 22 tillable unites of farmed earth, a rather large homestead, which long has had the name great farm. He was taxed for 4 adults and 12 cows. In 1589-1591 he was the "council representative" in p.

This is a very rough translation. Länsman has a better translation and you can find it throught the search button.

Hope this gets you started.

Syrene --

Thanks for the translation. Most helpful. I spent all day today on TALKO instead of working. ;-)

I need to clean up my GEDCOM and incorporate the new stuff. Then maybe Hasse will reload a cleaner copy and no one will be mislead by my mistakes.

Also, the SFHS is on my list for payment so will send a check out in the next week. Sorry I let it slip.

My mother's mother's family came from Rif in Edsevö - the earliest ancestor in my records is Erik Hindersson Rif, b. 1686. There is data about Rif in Släkt och Bygd #16 (Släktforskarforeningen i Jakobstad r.f. now known as Jakobstadsnejdens släkt- och bygdeforskare r.f.).

Hi,
I believe the genealogy collection includes #16. Just email the SFHS office, Attn: Don Forsman
Give him the details and he can snail mail xerox copies of the pages you need.

Syrene
