Berenice Appelo, beloved wife of historian Carlton Appelo, died Wednesday in Longview.

She was a 49-year resident of Deep River and Naselle and resided lately in the Columbia View Care Center in Cathlamet.

Berenice Appelo was born in Vallejo, California, on July 9, 1910.

Her father, Frank Johnson, was a steam engineer on Southern Pacific sternwheeler ferryboats on San Francisco Bay, including the Berkeley, now on display in San Diego Harbor.
