Every Independence Day, a great ball is hosted by the President of Finland. A lot of the event is televised, starting at the beginning, with the President and spouse welcoming all the guests. This is usually the most fun to watch, seeing who got invited and how successful (or not) the ladies' choices in ball gowns were.

Just thought that you might like to know that the first guests to be greeted are war veterans, starting with the receipients of the Mannerheim Cross. Not many of them left any more, and even fewer are those who are still able to attend the ball... Still, I think it's great that they are placed at the top of the guest list in terms of reception.
