Hello
My name is Putte Bäck and I live in Nykarleby, Finland. I am trying to locate living relatives to my relatives that immigrated to America for about 100 years
ago. Here are some data that I've got from a genealogy by Woldemar Backman made in 1935 about the Bäck (Baeck) family in Forsby, Nykarleby, Finland .
Otto* Immanuel Baeck, born 3 May 1872 in Lappajarvi, Finland. Immigrated to Racine, Wisconsin 21 May
1891. Managing Director for a leather factory in Racine. Married 1st in Racine to Fanny* Rusiska born i Prag, Boehmen, died in Racine 24 Nov. 1924.
Otto returned to Reisjarvi, Finland in 1932. Married 2nd 14 June to the widow Vilhelmina* Viljamaki, born Rekonen in Kivijarvi, Finland.
Children from the 1st marriage born in Racine:
Amalie Adele Baeck, born 27 May 1896, works in an office in Racine (1935)
Lilian Milada Baeck, born 15 Sept. 1897, works in an office in Racine
(1935)
Pearl Ottilia Baeck, born 10 June 1901. teacher in a highschool in Racine
(1935)
Almar Immanuel Baeck, born 31 Aug. 1905, works in an office in Racine
(1935).
Otto had a brother Karl Uno, and his son Karl Mikael Baeck, born 23 Nov. 1893 in Kemijarvi, Finland became a farmacist in 1912 in Finland. Immigrated 1913 to Wisconsin, USA. Moved to Chicago 1914, studied at the university and had a the same time a farmacy in the evenings. After 6 years of studies he was doctor of medicine. After specialization, surgeon at hospitals in
Wankegan, Illinois, (a suburb to Chicago in 1935). Also studied in Berlin and Wien. Married to Ruth Banks from German parents.
The only trace I found on the web is for Lillian BECK who had SSN: 397-22-6905 in Wisconsin.
Birth Date: 15 Aug 1881
Death Date: Jul 1971
Death Residence Localities
ZIP Code: 54963
Localities: Omro, Winnebago, Wisconsin.
I know that Lillian wisited her cousins in Finland in 1952 during the Olympic Games in Helsinki.
Best Regards
Putte Bäck.

Would you have any information on the Ryss family name, from Solf, Finland (my paternal grandfather's ancestors)?
Thank you.

Hi Putte,
A very, belated welcome to finlander!

On the Heritage Quest cd Scandinavians in the 1910 US Federal Census I found the following listings for Beck (Heads of household only) in Racine Co, WI. Unfortunately no Baeck listings.
Surname,Given Name,Age,Sex,Race,Birthplace,County,Locality,T624R oll,Part,Page,Subpage,State
BECK,ARTHUR M,37,M,WHITE,FINLAND,RACINE,9WDRACINE,1734, 2,217,A,WI

BECK,EINAR J,31,M,WHITE,FINLAND,RACINE,8-WD RACINE,1734,2, 173,B,WI

Searching the SSDI using Racine as the residence I found this listing for Lilian which better fits the birthdate you mentioned.
LILLIAN BECK 15 Sep 1897 Nov 1986 53404 (Racine, Racine, WI) (none specified) 391-01-7421 Wisconsin
Perhaps other family members are mentioned in her obituary.

At the Racine Co, WI Genweb site is a lookup volunteer for births deaths and marriages in Racine perhaps you may learn more about the other daughters here also a lady willing to lookup newspapers.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wikenosh/kenolookup.htm

Also did you try to search SSDI using date of birth and first name or middle name no surname Wisconsin (issued SSDI at bottom).

Hope this helps.
