Hello: I am looking for information on my gr-grandma's family from Finland.
I think her half brother Johan Henricsson Sorvari came first to Ishpeming around 1890. I think I see his family in the census 1910-20-30 Ishpeming, Marquette County, Michigan as John Hendrickson. I'm trying to connect with someone who can help confirm if this is my gr-grandma's brother.
A sister Hilda came to Ishpeming about 1900 and married a Joseph Lammi. They stayed in the area.
I think another sister Josephina "Fiina" also came and married a Victor Laaksonen in 1901. They ended up in British Columbia and Fiina leaving for Washington state.
My gr-grandma came in 1906 and married Konrad Jalo, they ended up out here in Oregon.
Thanks for any help
Kalle

Birthdate or age would help a lot and maybe birth parish also:)

Yes, good point.
Johan Henricsson Sorvari (John Hendrickson) was born July 6 1864 in Isojoki, Finland
Hilma, my gr-grandma, was born May 18 1877 in Isojoki.
Josephina on April 23 1880 in Isojoki.
Hilda on November 3 1882 also in Isojoki.
Thanks again, Kalle

Hi Kalle,
I had a good number of John Henriksons by a variety of spellings. I didn't have anybody for Isojoki parish.
Nobody in the dbase had a birthday you specified so I think I will take the info over to Swenson and check the Ishpeming Swedish language churches.

Now if they only spoke Finnish, then it's likely that they will be found in one of those places instead and those records are likely at the Finnish archives in Hancock, MI.

I didn't see John Henrikson or Joseph Lammi on the 1930 census, url above.

Hi Kalle,
I know you have the 1910 census details but I thought posting the two together may help people to undertake a lookup
HENDRICKSON,JOHN,
41,M,WHITE,FINLAND,MARQUETTE,4-WD ISHPEMING,662,1,46,A,MI
LAMMI,JOSEPH,
38,M,FIN,MARQUETTE,4WD ISHPEMING,662,1,48,A, MI
I also noticed a Frank Lammi aged 24 on page 45A otherwise details are the same. There were a dozen Lammi Heads of household in Michigan in 1910 if there are others to locate.

Did you know JALO,CONRAD C, was already in Oregon in 1910 age 39,M,WHITE,FINLAND,LAKE,SILVER,1282,1,142,B,OR
You may have already tried this site for Oregon?

Washington State

Many counties in Washington have Death Certificates of Finns in Chehalis County, Washington, 1907-1947 searchable at
Genealogical Society of Finland.

Hi Jeanette: Thanks for your help. In the Ishpeming area. The John Hendrickson I'm thinking is our guy is spelled Henrickson in 1910 and is 46. in 1920 he's spelled Hendrickson and is 55. 1930 it's Hendrickson and he's 65.
Yes my gr-grandparents Conrad and Hilma Jalo came to Silver Lake "Fort Rock" area in Oregon in the summer of 1909. Guess he got a good sales pitch on some dry central Oregon desert land to farm on. I think they only lasted out there 4 or 5 years.
I sure appreciate the help.

Hi Kalle,

At MARQUETTE COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY I found a page
Marquette Vital Records on Microfilm- These films can be ordered at any Latter Day Saints Family History Center
http://members.aol.com/MQTCGS/MCGS/MqtVitals.html
I thought this may be helpful to you as it lists the vital records
and film numbers.
