I am trying to help Bill Wright who is seeking his elusive ancestors. His mother was Ida Johanna Martensdotter Hofman (or perhaps Ida Johanna Johnson or Forsman) born 6/17/1882 in Munsala. She married Gustaf Simonsson Backlund Forsman in 1902. He was born 22/9/1865. I don't know the parish. He also has Klockars ancestors. Any help would be most appreciated. Thankyou.

Hi!
Did they live in the States, or are you looking for info. from the European end? There are quite a few Forsman and Backlund's on Ancestry.

I just had a jolt after reading about Gustaf Forsman trip to the US:
Ship from Finland Astraea
Date of departure from Finland 12.06.1909
Ship from England Lusitania
Date of departure from England 19.06.1909

My father and his family left Finland on the same date, same ship; and they sailed from England on the Lusitania the same day! They were onboard with Gustaf the entire trip. What a coincidence.

June, your mention of your family crossing in 1909 on the same
ship, the Lusitania, as did Gustaf, Ida's husband, she staying
behind to be joined in that "right of passage" experience only
mother and daughter can know, the birthing of Ida's third child
with grandmother Lena Sophia "officiating" in the sauna, as
was the custom, according to tradition established by grand-
mother who brought Ida's oldest sister Brita's daughter, Alma
into this world in 1898. On that 1910 crossing Ida was "down
in steerage", with her three daughters Ester, Emma and Elin
while several "decks" above the famed "music man" Oscar
Hammerstein enjoyed his Salon accomodations. I don't think
Ida ever got his autograph and I'm sure he never "descended
ther depths" to call on her. Strange world realizing that my son
is involved in the production of a show, guess where? In the
Oscar Hammerstein Theatre in New York City.

My thanks to each of you for your kind help in getting my
mother and her family "across" and with your kind assistance
all the dots will be connected and just how many and when
were these elusive crossings will erase all questions.

Imagine how simple it would be to track them down if only they
had agreed to the name KNUTS. honoring old Isak, and left
JOHNSON, BLOOMQVIST. FORSMAN for others to struggle with

Modern computer technology will see us through!!
