My friends husband's Grandfather was born in Finland 11-5-1879 in a town called Terjarv. He came to the USA 4-4-1900.
His name was William Mattson Skytle or
William Tarvon Skytle Mattson.
The grandson only knows that William was in the UP of Michigan and did lumbering there and later on in life lived in the LP of Michigan. We don't have a death date yet or a cemetery. Just wondering if anyone has this name in their data base?
Many thanks!
Alice

Could the surname also be Skyttelä? There are many William Mattson's in the U.P. of Michigan, but the only one that was close agewise was the one in the 1910 census. There are no Skytle's.

Yes - There it is possible that the name could be mis-spelled by a few letters. Thanks Denise for your help - I appreciate it. We are starting out with just a tid bit of information so it will be exciting to see where this goes.

Forsyth Township is Gwinn MI area so no Swedish language churches down there. Probably they used the Finnish language church in that town so when you are in Gwinn, visit the Grace Lutheran Church which was the Finnish Lutheran in town. They have the original books there. I found my mother's family there so if your guy was a member, he could well be there.

Re: 1920 United States Federal Census > Washington > Benton > Kennewick Valley

Please note the following when viewing the image below:

Anders Villiam Mattsson Skytte died 20 Aug 1919 and his wife is listed as Alexandria Johanna Mattson on the World War I Draft Registration Card. In 1920 Alexandria was living with her brother-in-law Joseph Mattson (Matts Joel Mattsson Skytte b. 5 Nov 1879)

Assuming this is correct then Anders and Alexandria has three daughters - Sylvia b. abt. 1911, Svea b. abt. 1914 and Sima b. abt. 1915

We do believe that this may be the wrong William Mattson. My friend Ron says that his great uncle died and was buried in Michigan maybe in the Mancelona area. He believes that William had 2 brothers Justus (Ron's Dad) and Patric and 2 sisters Winford and Sierra or Siree or maybe spelled with a "C". Ron remembers His uncle as a small child - age 10 / 11
(ron was born in 1943) and His Uncle William and Uncle Patric were lumberjacks in the UP of Michigan before they came to the LP of Michigan.
I was at the Wexford county court house yesterday and looking...see next reply .. someone might be interested in this information
thanks for everything! Alice

Hello Alice,

After finding more missing pieces to the puzzle I believe Ron's great grandfather is Matts William Mattsson Skrabb born 22-08-1868 in Karleby, died 24-05-1947 in USA. What do you think? I would appreciate feedback from you or anyone else regarding this matter and hope this time I'm finally on the right track.

Hello Alice,

I also thought I should mention that Matts William Mattsson Skrabb had an older brother, Anders Viktor Mattson-Skrabb born 29-09-1862 in Karleby and died 23-02-1945 in Newberry, Luce Co., Michigan. He married Hannah Sophia Mattson Johnson born 19-04-1865 in Whitehall, Muskegon Co., Michigan and died 03-11-1943 in Newberry, Luce Co., Michigan.

That would mean Ron has many more distant relatives living the Michigan area.

Hello Alice,

Here is a list of William Mattson's descendants.

Descendants of William Mattson

... see the attachment /Hasse

Justus Mattson was my grandfather. My mother was Margaret Louise Molhoek, b 8 jan 1928. Her husbands name is Merlin Lee Molhoek b 21 may 1933. My name is Michael Lee Molhoek, I was born 9 Sep 58, I am married to Tina B. Molhoek nee Bogordos b 19 Nov 63. We have 3 children Magdalene Lee b Apr 26 1993, John Roger b Sep 29 1996 and Abigail Lee b Oct 29 1999.
The Ronald Mattson you have Listed as b 1945 is my cousin, He is Helen Mattson's son. Not Justus and Cora's.
I do not think Elwood Dean is a son of Justus and Cora, But they did have another son named Donald who is deceased and daughter named Susan, she is married to Albert Owens and they have 2 children Alan and Kathy.
If this helps anyone updating the data base you are welcome to the info.
Mike

Sorry people, but I have to remind you of one thing.

I really think that we should be careful posting information about living persons. Many people are afraid of identity theft etc. Iwould suggest that information of living persons instead could be posted in text attachments or even using a personal PM. An attachment would be ok since those will not show in google and to non members.

I will modigy some of the messages in this direction in order to remove information about living individuals.
