I have a request for help with research in Germany in the late 1890s. Can someone give some suggestions as to where to start?

There are many "entry points" to German genealogy. One that I have used a little is this (http://wiki-en.genealogy.net/wiki/Main_Page) wiki -based solution.

Hi June,

I have done extensive research on rootsweb.com - click on the message boards - click on open all localities (a little hidden) - click on Central Europe - then click on Germany or go try direct with the following:

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.ceeurope.germany

Once at Germany you need to pick which area of Germany. The problem here is all the boundary and name changes throughtout time. This is a history lesson in itself. The good news is the forum is very helpful and if you post in the wrong section someone will guide you to the right location.

Best wishes,

Karen
