My grandfather Alexander Mattsson Sandström was born 16 March 1852 in Karleby, dead 1931 i Gamlakarleby. He was married three times: frist to Lovisa Mattsdotter Kaustar, born 1847, then to Maria Sofia Johansdotter Kolander, born 1882, and last time to Emma Helena Carlsdotter Viitavesi, born 1882.
He lived in USA with his two first wifes, I think. But I don´t know anything about the 30 years he spended there.
Does anyone know?

Hello Lasse,

I believe I found the place (http://www.rootsweb.com/~mikent/cemeteries/tyrone/pinewood/nz.html) where Lovisa Mattsdotter (Kaustar) Sandström is buried. There was also a Sellma L. Sandstrom buried next to her. Maybe a daughter?

Thank you, Kerstin and Art Fors!
I am overwhelmed. Now I know where to look for my relatives and perhaps find out something about their lives.
The years of birth and deaths are not 100 percent exakt, but it ought to be grandfather and his first wife.
So he was a farmer in Amerika.

Lasse,

Here you can read about Tyrone township in Michigan:

Alexander Sandström's third wife Emma Helena was the aunt to Landry Willner who is married to my cousin in Viitavesi. Landry's father Otto was Emma's brother.

Dear June
We must be relatives because Emma is my grandmother (farmor). She gave birth to Gunnar who was my father (dead 1967).
Do you know where I can find out more about her family?
I know a family Willner that moved to Stockholm. I met them many years ago.

More questions:
Alexander Mattsson Sandström and Lovisa Mattsdotter Kaustar Sandström had also a son named Ernst Alexandersson Sandström, born 9 November 1875 in Karleby, supposed to be dead in Amerika 1880.
Is it possible to find data about him in the Federal Census? Could he be barried in Tyrone as his sister Selma or in Newaygo, Michigan?
My grandfather married his second wife Maria Sofia Johansdotter Kolander-Häggblom, born 1859, in the year if 1901.
According to Pinewood cemetary in Tyrone she died 1908, but in the Finnish records she died already 1900.
Alexander was either a bigamist or divorced his first wife before he married the second.
It is hard to tell.

Lasse,

If you look at my database in Talko, you'll find Maria Sofia Johansdotter Häggblom, b. 1859 and d. 6 Jul 1918. Anders Kolander died 22 Jul 1860. My data came from Dawn Lawrence and Frances Kingsdord.

Lasse,

You asked for information about Emma's family. Do you mean her parents? I can send you lots of data about both of her parents. But if you look in Talko database, it's all there. Her father was Carl Johan Eriksson Viitavesi-Willner, b. 25 Apr 1847 in Nedervetil, d. 12 Jun 1900, married in Nedervetil 20 Oct 1872 to Maria Lovisa Mattsdotter Emmes, b. 24 Mar 1853, Nedervetil, d. 29 Oct. 1928. They had 14 children. He was known as Eirikas Kal-Jonnå.

Your Emma also had a brother Ernst Viktor, b. 1873 - to America 1892; and a sister Alina Maria, b. 1874 - to America 1898; and a brother Karl Sanfrid, b. 1878 - to America 1904 and returned 1907 - used name Karlsson; and a sister Hilma Lovisa, b. 1880 - to America 1902. I have no info. about them.

Do you have the book "Lars Friis i Karleby och hans Ättlingar"? You can find Carl Johan Viitavesi-Willner's family there- pages 290-291.

June,
I am still waiting for a password to the Talko data base. As soon as I get it I will follow all threads.
Do you know where to get the book "Lars Friis i Karleby och hans Ättlingar"?
Are Dawn Lawrence and Frances Kingsdord members in the Finlander Forum?
Yes, I am interested in Emmas life and her parents. She died fairly young and her husband was 30 years older. I have so many questions.

Lasse,

The Lars Friis book is out of print, but perhaps you can borrow a copy from your library.

No, Dawn Lawrence and Frances Kingsford (note I misspelled her name) don't belong to Finlander. Frances is a member of the Swedish Finn Historical Society and lives in California. I've lost track of Dawn's address.

If you will send me your e-mail address, I'll send you an ahnentafel for Emma and her family line. You can send it via private message. In the meantime, I'll try to contact my cousin who is married to Landry Willner - they don't have e-mail and they live in Viitavesi, Finland.

Yes, we are related. I calculated that your father and I are 6th cousins once removed through Anders Andersson Viitavesi, plus about 40 other links.
