Edward (Jonasson) Samskar was born in Larsmo at Samskar Sept 19, 1887. He emigrated to Duluth and apparently died there of TB. There is no record here of his death, althrough earlier of employment. Would anyone know if his death was recorded in Larsmo?

Pat,
I checked the MN Death Index on Ancestry covering 1909-2002 and no Edward Samskar. There are many Samskars in the birth and death index, not him. Many Samskars in the 1920 Census for MN. Two males with the middle name Edward, Frank Edward and Wayne Edward. I found Edvard Sämskar on Migration Institute Passport List. Passport issued 23 Mar 1905.Also Axel Samskar from Larsmo. I found a Victor Samskar in Duluth in the 1920 Census and a John and Emma in the MN Naturalization. Both were older than date for Edward. Only one arrival thru Castle Garden and that was Johan. Did not find Edward on Ellis Island or any ports listed on Ancestry. Jaska Sarell has Samskar on Talko, but no Edvard.

Karen,
Thank you for your search.
I did not have Edwards passport information (23 March 1905). You indicate an Axel Samskar also--did he come the same time? I do not know of an Axel.

Johan would be John. You said Castle Garden, what is that, a port out of England? Johan-or John, is my grandfather.

Thanks for your help!

This was the predecessor to Ellis Island.

Axel Samskar, 1889, Larsmo, passport issued 5 Feb 1910, destination Amerikka. Not found on passenger lists.
The Castle Garden entry for Johannes Samskar says he was 24 at his arrival on 4 Nov 1885. That would have him born abt 1861.
The US Census 1910 and 1920 has a John Samskar and wife Emma with family in Grand Marais, Cook, MN. He says he emigrated in 1891. His birth date is approx. 1872.

Karen,
Thanks!
This Johannes Samskar emigrationing in 1885 is unknown to me. I will check him out. The John Samskar in the Census records is my grandfather and he emigrated in 1891, born in 1871.
I have been away from genealogy for a while and finding it a lot of fun to return. Hiski has really enlarged since I was last there! Wonderful!

Thanks again,
Pat
