I'm looking for information about an Albert Alfred Aberson, b. in Finland or Sweden who married 15 Feb 1896 in Benton County, Oregon to Mary Frances Stevens, b. 1879 in Des Moines, Iowa. I would like to know his birth information and when he emigrated - his family claimed he emigrated through Astoria, OR. I've never heard of this before.

Thank you, Art. This is a confused case - in one place he claims he was born in Sweden, and then he claims to be born in Kokkola, Finland. I searched the birth records for him and couldn't find anyone named Albert Alfred born there. His family said he emigrated 1880 or 1883, but your data shows 1887. He came before Ellis Island opened, and I don't find any record of his emigration through Castle Garden. And I haven't found any evidence that emigrant ships went to Astoria, OR.

Thanks, Art. I guess we can say that he was born between 1865-67 in Finland, and emigrated ca 1883. I didn't find the name Aberson in HisKi, so I think it probably is an Americanization of Abrahamsson. I'll have to keep trying to find an Albert or Alfred around Kokkola.

Dear Art,

Thank you, again for all your research. We now know a lot about his life in the US - just wish he had told his family more about his name, parents, etc, - it would make searching in Finland easier.
