My great grandfather, Victor Hanson (Victor Sunnebacka or Hastbacka; b- 25/10/1883) came to the USA from Terjarv, Finland in 1902. He married my great-grandmother, Hulda Storbacka, also from Terjarv. I have made contact with Grandma Hulda's family in Finland but know nothing about Grandpa Victor. He supposedly had 12 siblings. I would like to know where they went. I have read that they all went to the USA, but I don't know where. Does Victor have any family left in Finland?

Hi,
The Institute of Migration has many Hästbacka's on it, but I need to renew my membership so I don't have access to where they were born for you. Looking at Ancestry.com I am finding some born in Terjärvi which may be siblings. most going to N.Y. I will attach the ones I find.

Hi,
There are also Hästbacka's on TALKO. Maybe someone can help you with that on this site. I'm off to work now, I'll send more when I get home later.

Hi,
I'm at work, but just checked TALKO, and I have 2 Hästbacka's in my genealogy on my great grandfather, Matt Granbacka's side.
They are Anders Persson Hästbacka b. 1653 Terjärv d. 20 Dec. 1731 married to Carin Larsdr. Dofnäs Kortijärvi b. Feb. 1658 d. 12 Mar. 1747 and I also have Elsa Andersd. Dofnäs Sunabacka Hästbacka b. Sept. 1685 Terjärv d. 1 Apr. 1760 married to Johan Carlsson Dofnäs b. Mar. 1685. I checked for Viktor Johansson Hästbacka on TALKO, but did not find him in anyone's ancestry. I'll see what else I can find. Someone else on TALKO may be able to help though who have Hästbacka's.

Hi,
of Victor Hanson's siblings at least Amanda Lovisa took an attest to America 7.9.1908, Selma Maria died 8.5.1908, Anders Oskar and Matts Evert moved to Jakobstad in 1908. Hans Lennart is still on Hästbacka farm in Terjärv 1909.

Would this be your grandfather, Viktor? This passenger record is only one page total, but he is going to sister, Amanda Hanson's.

Thank you for all the information. That is definitely Grandpa Viktor who came over on the Cedric. He went from Finland to England on the Arcturus. I had heard that most of his siblings were in the New York area. I wonder if they took the name Hanson the same as Viktor. Hasse, I didn't know Viktor had family left in Terjarv. I went to see his mother Greta's stuga when I was there, but never had the chance to meet Hästbacka relatives. I will be visiting again this summer. Maybe I can meet them if there are any left. This has been very helpful!

I checked the ancestry of Viktor and find that I'm related to both of his parents in many ways. And you have ancestors with names such as Torp, Wirkkala, Hyytinen, Kolam, etc. so you are also related to other members of this Forum. Your ancestors prior to 1800 are included in the Caino-Torp book. I can send you an ahnentafel if you wish. Send me a private message.
