My distant cousin Bo-Anders Kuhlman in Föglö asked me for help to find his uncle's family in US.

Holger Sjöberg born 18 Oct 1913 in Föglö, Åland, Finland. He was on a ship with escort vessel between Canada and England during World War II. His ship was hit by torpedo and he came to S:t Thomas island in US Virgin islands and a woman took care of him and she was after a while his wife, Mrs Myrthle Sjöberg (or Sjoberg). Their first child Corinne (Corine) was born 1944/1945. Next child was Constance, no information about birth year, then Gustaf(Gustav) born about 1950-1952, and then Tager. Tager drowned 1958/1959. All the children with surname Sjöberg (Sjoberg)

After 12 years USA noticed that Holger was an illegal immigrant and was not allowed to stay in USA. In Finland he was declared as dead. Holger worked 2 years as cook (steward) and then he was allowed to become a Swedish citizen and was settled in Gotland, Sweden where he had a "common-law" wife and got a son. Holger died in Gotland 31 Aug 1978.

Bo-Anders has heard that the children have moved to New York or other places in USA from S:t Thomas. There is a rumour that Holger had a welding business in S:t Thomas and was a taxi driver.

We are looking forward for any advice. If anyone gets information about the children, please send me an email ingemar_ekman*hotmail.com
Thank you,
Ingemar

Hi,
This may be the Gustaf you're looking for, or maybe a son?
