I just finished reading Winter Fire - A novel of music and war by William R. Trotter. As a historical novel it provides an understanding of the relationship between Finland and Germany during the Continuation War. It weaves in Sibelius and a quest for his 8th Symphony while giving explanation and comment on many of his works. A German conductor is drafted into the German army, sent to Finland to liaise with the Finnish Army's 3d Division and meets Sibelius between battles with the Russians.

One reviewer said "Brillantly evokes the image of Jean Sibelius-the master of enigma. It is a great thriller, too, and one of those rare books you cannot put down" -Maestro Lorin Maazel, New York Philharmonic.

copyrighted in 1993 I purchased a 2003 paperback verison from one of Amazon .com's used book dealers.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.
