Hei,
I am a descendent of these families on my mother's side. My grandparents are Charles Kaiponen and Hilda Moilanen who married in Atlantic Mine, MI in 1906.

Hilda is daughter of Tuomas Moilanen and Saara Huovinen.
Charles is son of Henry Kaiponen and Maria Liisa Pieniniemi.

If you think you are related, please write to me. rtcouture at yahoo.com

Hei Solja,

Thank you for responding to my posting. I am very pleased to receive your information.

Yes, the names you listed are my Kaiponen family. My grandfather is Kaarle Heikinp. s 24.05.1884. I am not completely familiar with Finnish family "namesakes" but it is obvious that Heikinp. designates "son of Henrik" and Heikint. designates "daughter of Henrik"

Whose address is this?
Pienihuovinen house (register nr 32, Laitasaari village, Muhos, Finland)

Inkeri Kaiponen, (wife of a distant relative in Finland) provided me with children and ancestors of Henry (Gustav's son) Kaiponen, my great grandfather (back in August 2001). She had indicated that Kaisa married a man by the name of Juho Jaakko Ketola but you have his family name as Hämälä. Could you please clarify this information for me? I would like to add Kaisa's three children to my family tree.

Looking forward to hear from you soon!

Warm Regards,
Rosie

>>but it is obvious that Heikinp. designates "son of Henrik" and Heikint. designates "daughter of Henrik" <<
Yes, that is correct.

>>Whose address is this? Pienihuovinen house (register nr 32, Laitasaari village, Muhos, Finland)<<
These two families lived in this house during 1900, according to the records.

Finnish surnames changed when they moved to new houses, became son in laws etc. Same happened to Juho Jaakko Ketola/Hämälä. In fact, the surname of his father was originally Jaakola :-) - see below:

Ketola Mikko Mikonp (former Hämälä and Jaakola) farmer, born 30.06.1832 in Oulunsalo (parents Mikko Mikonp Jaakola and Kaisa Matint Karvonen)
married 25.4.1857 with Anna Kaisa Heikint Rahko (b. 05.05.1834, d. 7.3.1873 Muhos)
2nd wife, married 27.8.1875, Johanna Liisa Sakarint Hämälä (b. 11.08.1835 Muhos) <=== here comes the surname Hämälä!
Ketola Mikko Mikonp b. 29.10.1857
Ketola Henrik Mikonp b. 08.09.1859
Ketola Brita Kaisa Mikont b. 15.01.1860
Ketola Juho Jaako Mikonp b. 17.01.1869
Ketola Liisa Mikont b. 16.10.1876 - - Passport 02.04.1910 to America
Kaarle Jaako Jaakonp Ylitalo went to America with passport 17.01.1900
came back to Muhos, married Liisa Mikont Ketola, got 3 children and went back to states 1910.

Hämälä Juho Jaako Mikonp farmer, b. 17.01.1869
Hämälä Kaisa Maria Heikint (Kaiponen) wife, b. 12.11.1873
Hämälä Fanny Elisabet b. 27.12.1892 - - Passport 26.08.1912 to America (with surname Hämälä)

Hei Solja,
Thank you for the information...I really appreciate your help and time spent to do so!

I beleive there is a date error for
Ketola, Liisa Mikont b. 16.10.1876
Her birthdate is after the death of her mother,
Anna Kaisa Heikint Rahko (d. 7.3.1873 Muhos)
Please advise me on the correct year.

Also, can you please let me know how or where you obtained this information. Where do you connect to the Kaiponen family?

I invite you to explore my family tree web page http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/o/u/Rosemary-T-Couture/

I look forward to hearing from you again!

Warm Regards,
Rosie

Hi Rosie,
My maiden name is Fräki, and I am related to you by the family tree you have!
My father was Kenneth William Fraki, born in Dodgeville, Michigan; his parents were Waino Fraki and Ina Kilpela. Ben Fraki (previous owner of Fraki's Market) was my father's uncle! :D The Rahko name also fits in with my great grandmother, and I'm sure much more of your family tree is related as there are other names mentioned that are familiar, but I am at work right now, and don't have my info. on the computer here with me.

Best Regards,
Denise

Hi Denise,
I do have Fraki surnames in my family tree but I don't have a Kenneth, Ben or Waino. I'm really curious where you are connected. Are you also in Michigan?

Please write to me when you have your info at hand. I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi,

I suppose Liisa Mikont Ketola is from the second marriage, with wife Johanna Liisa Sakarint Hämälä.

This information is from the material collected for the history book of Laitasaari village.
I am not connected with the Kaiponen family, I just live in the village and happen to have the material.
It is based on Muhos church registers and census registers.

Regards,

-Solja

P.S. I visited your family tree web pages - some Holappas there, too. I have for example the ancestor of Walborg Holappa (b. 19.5.1842, d. 6.2.1911 in Muhos) in my own database. And Sakari Holappa, is he from Puolanka, it was not mentioned on the page? Interesting ;-)

Hi Rosie,
By the way, I was born in Laurium, Michigan and grew up in a suburb of Detroit; Warren, Michigan. I now live about 50 miles north of Bay City, in a small rural town called Prescott.
