My relative Maria Klaara Peramaki, born September 8th 1875 in Alavus, Finland moved to USA or Canada in spring 1900. Maria's parents were Simo Korpela-Peramaki and Maria Kreeta Taipalus.

No one knows what happened to her and Maria Klaara's history is totally unclear. Perhaps she used last name Maki after moving - I believe Peramaki was too difficult to North American mouths...

I don't have any clue where did she go and mission seems to be impossible... Anyway, I thought that maybe someone of the forum could trace her! I'd love to contact her descendants, if there are any.

Thanks,
Marko

Hi again,
On the passenger record it states that she was a servant, and had $12.00. She paid for her passage on her own, and was going to her cousin's house, it looks like, very hard to read, Rose Taipalus. It does not state where Rose lived.

You found her, absolutely great! Very nice coincident that you found Rosa Taipalus as well: she has been missing from us too. Her exact date of birth is December 24th 1875. I have knew that she went to North America and died there November 2nd 1950. But no idea where, or did she have a family. So practically I am as stuck with Rosa as with Maria!

Could you or someone else trace from census' where did she live (with Rosa cousin)?

Thanks!

Hi Marko,
Did Maria or Rosa have any siblings that came to America? I'm not finding either of them in 1910 censuses, so I assume they married, therefore it's difficult to track them if a married surname is unknown. Sometimes, siblings are a clue as to what state they settled in America. I am coming up with other Taipalus' and Peramaki's (and variations of name spellings for the surnames).

Maria had few siblings but none of them in North America. Actually all but one, brother Frans, lived only few years. And her brother stayed in Finland. He had no kids.

Rosa had four sisters in USA or Canada:

- Anna Emilia, born 1868; husband Antti Vihtori Maenpaa, born 1865. At least two children: Juho Edvard, born 1887 and died 1909; Senja Hedvig, born 1889.

- Hedvig Christina, born 1871

- Fanny Katariina, born 1881. To America in July 1907.

- Sanna Ottilia, born 1883; husband Kustaa Jolikko, born 1870. At least one children: Anna Lyydia, born 1903. Family moved to America in May 1904.

By the way, it was surprise that on documents Rosa's family name was Taipalus. Her father's last name was Ylinen. Taipalus is a maiden name of Rosa's mother. So Ylinen name could come out somewhere as well.
