In the early 1680 the Swedish Government forcibly relocated 1380 families from the coastal areas of Ostrobothnia to Blekinge Province to provide sailors for the Swedish Navy, according to Lars Ericson (Svenska Knektar). Carl XI had recently founded the city of Karlskrona to serve as the main basis for the Swedish Navy. In 1697 the Finnish deportees and their families constituted more than 30% of the population in Blekinge. Has a list of the deportees ever been published? The names should be readily available from the records of the allotment system (indelningsverket).
