I have posted a request for information on these my great great grandparents in a different part of this forum, but I think maybe that was the wrong place, so I try again.

My great great grandfather, sea captain Anders Norrgren, was born in 1820 (?) in Finland. He married Eva Evelina Sofia Wilhelmina Strömm in 1856 in Asikkala. I have information that he died in 1899, but I don't know if this is correct.

My great great grandmother Eva Evelina Sofia Wilhelmina Strömm was born May 15th, but I don't know which year. She is supposed to have been of a noble family who had two rivers (strömmar) in their coat of arms. I have information that she died in 1899, too, but I don't know if this is correct.

They had five children, all born in Loviisa:

1. Ester Zaida Sofia (b. 1864). She married Karl August Leonard Lindelöf in Helsinki in 1887. They had five daughters, all born in Helsinki: Eva Margaretha (b. 1888), who married Karl Ragnar Ôller in 1919 in Helsinki (he died in 1960). Siiri Esther Mathilda (b. 1889, d. 1911 in Denmark). Toini Maria (b. 1891, d. 1916 in Helsinki). Aino Elina Anna (b. 1893), who married Einar Ernst Torsten Leopold Brander in 1917 and had the son Hans Ernst Brander (b. 1920, d. 1940). Leila Linnea (b. 1896).

2. Knut Anders Edvard (b. 1865), who is my great grandfather. He married my great grandmother Ester Maria Lindedal in Vänersborg in 1898. They had four children, among them my father's father, and the family moved to Oslo in 1906. They later got divorced.

3. Gerda Aina Sofia (b. 1867, d. 1957 (?)).

4. Anders Waldemar (b. 1868 (?), d. 1887).

5. Anders Johan Leopold (b. 1869, d. before 1952 in London). He was a staff captain in the Russian Guard battallion before he went to the Diplomat Academy in St. Petersburg. He was Finnish consul in London from 1900 to 1930. He married an English woman, Edith Massey-Lawless (or Florence(?)) in 1902. They had no children.

I would be very grateful if anybody could help me find out how to find information about these people - especially, of course, my great great grandfather and -mother.

Thank you for your reply! Do you know when Ester Zaida Sofia and Karl August Leonard died, or what his or his parents' occupation was? And do you happen to know anything about her parents, i.e. my great great grandparents :)

This is very interesting. By making some more searches on www.genealogia.fi I have found out a bit more about the Anders Norrgren that you found, and his parents.

I found that Joh. Norrgren and Anna Mattsdtr. moved to Lovisa and had four more children: Sofia (1828) (her mother's name is said to be Lena Mattsdtr, probably a mistake?), Fredrik (1830), Wilhelm (1832), Carolina (1834). They seem to be the same couple as the one you found, since the wife's age has increased the correct amount of years.

So there's a couple of things that I wonder about:
- He is said to be a "Bd.måg" in Tessiö and a "buld: väfv" and "hagvakt" in Lovisa - what do these three expressions mean? "Hagvakt" sounds like "garden guard" - a game keeper?

- And what could be the explanation that they didn't have any children between 1822 and 1828, when they had a child every two years after they came to Lovisa, until the mother was 42?

Johan Norrgren died from "lungsot" (lung sickness) in 1845. He is said to be 53 years old and "arbk." (What does that mean? Arbetarkarl?)
So both of them will have been born in 1792.

The son Fredrik died two years old in 1832, from the "English sickness".
And Sofia died in 1838, nine years old, of a nervous fever.

Then I find that Sjöm. Anders Norrgren (sjøm. = sailor, right?) marries Arb.k:dr Ann. Lov. Beckman in 1845.

(What does "Arb.k:dr" mean? Arbetarkarls dotter?)

Tragically they have a stillborn daughter in 1846, and Ann. Lov. dies a couple of weeks later, 23 years old.

So it is possible that Anders could have remarried ten years later, and this time married my great great grandmother.

It seems that Anders's brother Wilhelm also became a sailor, and had two children by a woman called Otteliana Svanberg. She was eight years older than him, and I can't see that they married.

Their children were called Anders Wilhelm (1854) and Axel Mauritz (1859). Axel Mauritz died only one year old.

Thank you for the information about the Lindelöf family! It is very useful for me. I only know about four children of Johan August and Matilda: Karl August, Alma Eugenia, Berndt Johan and Richard Mattias. Do you know the name of the fifth child?

I find this to, first Lovisa-Strömfors-married
Drg.=drengen Johan Johansson
Bd.=bonde dotter Anna Mattsdr
26.10.1814 village: Tessiö House: Smeds

so they can also have a son born in Strömfors 12.5.1815 Henric Johan

And Anders´s wife Anna Lovisa Beckman is in Lovisa-buried
h:u Anna Lov. Beckman barnsbörd=childsbed
6.11.1846 23 year

måg=son-in-law
Bd=bonde=farmer
Arb.k:dr=Arbetarkarls dotter=workingman daugther
hagvakt=vaktkarl=garden guard
and I find this link to Karolina Norrgren
www.genealogia.org/genos/47/47_57.htm

The Knut Anders Gustaf at the bottom is my grandfather. Unfortunately he died already in 1942, so I never met him.

I took your advice and did some searching in Hiski, and I found quite a lot of information about Eva Evelina Sofia Wilhelmina:

Eva Evelina Sofia Wilhelmina STRÖMM. Born on May 14 1824 in Anianpeldo, Asikkala.

Yes, I think that seems likely! :)

I'm wondering about the two entries dated 26.9.1756 and 13.7.1756. Surely this must be one and the same daughter? Both entries only have one date, not both birth and baptism dates like all the other entries have. And I don't think it is possible to have twins that are two weeks apart, and the mother still be alive after the birth. So I think 13.7.1756 must be the date of Sara's baptism. What do you think?

It's very sad about poor Elias hanging himself. Does the text at the end mean there was no service, because he committed suicide? What is "Rådstugu Rätten"?

And I wonder what happened to Elisabetha Froestadia? I can' find any record of her being dead before Elias's marriage with Brita Torell, but I suppose she must have been.

Rådstugu Rätten= City Court. So you have to read the court record.
