I have a passport application from the USA for Elizabeth Timper born 19 March 1860 in Abo-Finland. Is this the same area as Turku? I have been told that Parish records have not been indexed as of yet.

Elizabeth along with Sirenus (severin or severinus) and Alexander Timper are listed on the 1880 Census in New York. Father from Sweden and Mother from Finland. I have no other information.

Could someone confirm the location of Abo Finland? That would be great.
thanks

Denise, At least I'm looking in the right place. The Passport application was filled out in June 1881, USA where as the one you found was issued from Finland so it's hard to say if they are related.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Hi Brian,
Yes, it's hard to tell when there isn't a birthdate on the one from the Institute of Migration. Thought I would post the one off Ancestry in case someone on Finlander has further info. on her.

Denise,

Thanks for posting that information. We are in the process of getting a Death Certificate for Alexander Timper 1856-1943 from New York. I'm not sure what type of information that will have. Trying to narrow the search parameters before I send a records request to the Parish. I'm not sure if it was the 1910 or 1920 census that showed the year they arrived in America.

Again thanks for your help.

Brian

Most of the information that you posted is right on. I have most of these documents already. You have been overly helpful. Alexander, (Reinhold) Sirenus and Elizabeth Timper that you posted information for is right on. The one thing I did'nt have was the arrival time for them. Which we now know as 1874. So, again I thank you for the information. The lineage is now strtched between Finland, Russia, and Sweden. There was a time that Russia controlled portions of Finland. I will also scroll thru that site link you left for me.

Thanks again for all your time,

Brian

Found the name Reinhold Severin Timper on a Seamans House log. Showing that he was from St.Karins/ Kaarina. On the right track now.

St Karins is just outside Åbo/Turku. Nowadays you do not notice it was a different municipality

Thanks for that info Kaj. I have a Death Certificate coming for Alexander Timper. Hopefully the information it provides will be helpful. The LDS Family Search site does have Micro Film for some of the Parish records and I'll be able to get a closer match to the ones I would order for review.

Recieved a copy of the Death Certificate for Alexander Timper. His father is listed as Reinhold Timper birthplace Finland, mothers name Johanna Meldring birthplace Finland. The Meldring name search had very little internet "hits" is there an alternate spelling or is it pronounced differently.

Thanks in advance
Brian Timper

Would Malm be a place rather than a last name. This appears on the Hiski extraction as Johanna Wilhelmina Malm. On the death certificate it says Johanna Meldring. It would be nice if this Adolph Reinhold Timper and wife Johanna W. (Malm) were the right parents.

The Malm name appeared frequently in Malax and Pedersöre, and I noted that Johan Ludvig Runeberg's mother's father's Malm family came from Nykarleby.

Thanks for the information June, I had Adolph Reinhold Timper and Johann Malm earmarked as a possible. Now that I have the Death Certificate for Alexander with Reinhold Timper as his father and Johanna Meldring as his mother I'll have to go in another direction. I was told that some of the early marriage certs from the New York area also mentioned the parents of individuals too. This would be a way to confirm the information that I have.

Thanks again Brian Timper

After recieving the death certificate for Alexander with his mother listed as Johanna Meldring, I was told that the parents names may be on the Marriage certs. So, I went a different way and got the marriage cert for Reinhold and Pauline Timper. Reinold's parents are listed as Adolph Reinholdt and Wilhelmina Reinholdt. Now on the HisKi site which has been mentioned there is an Adolf Reinhold Timper married to Johanna Wilhelmina Malm. So, the Meldring name may not be accurate, but, I will send for Alexander's marriage cert also for clarification. Well, I had to do a little cross checking but I found Israel Timper married Anna Maria Forss Dec. 29 1808 in Dragsfjard moving to Abo in Sep. 27 1813 and had a son Adolph Reinhold born Nov. 8, 1815. Johanna Wilhelmina Malm was from Abo. So, I think I'm going in the right direction. At this point I need the following translated for me.
Sorry I'm not sure how to place an accent over certain letters.
Timper, Israel: Ajankohta: 1818; Syntynyt: Bjerno; Kuollut: dod Huomautus: 35 ar. Utgadt med paquetten Pallas 26.4.1819. Drunknad under resan.; Lahde: Turun merimieshuone Aa1:279/557

Thanks for the help.

Brian,

Here's how to type umlauts over the letters:
http://www.genealogia.fi/faq/index.htm Click on computers in left menu, and then click on how to type foreign characters on a PC.

You asked for a translation of this - it appears to be a mixture of Finnish and Swedish. I think it says Israel Timper: time period 1818; was born in Bjerno, died at 35 years. Left on the packet boat Pallas 26 Apr 1819. Drowned during journey. I don't know the rest of it.

Timper, Israel: Ajankohta: 1818; Syntynyt: Bjerno; Kuollut: dod Huomautus: 35 ar. Utgadt med paquetten Pallas 26.4.1819. Drunknad under resan.; Lahde: Turun merimieshuone Aa1:279/557
