hello! I´m looking for ancestors to the Neverman family! Sanna Brita Karlsdotter Spåra, born 1868 in Kantlax, married 1888 with Johan Ernst Vilhelm Neverman and went to Usa in 1920. Children: Johan Viljam Neverman (1892), Anna Olivia Neverman (1896), August Reinhold Neverman (1899) and Ida Neverman (1901). I would appreciate any help!

Cate,
I couldn't find the Neverman family of John and Brita in WA. Did Brita emigrate? I found three of the children, but not her or Ida on the emigrations. Also, Johan Neverman is listed as Danish on his manifest as is son Johan. I saw the marriage record on Hiski for Kantalax in Munsala and they're both listed from the same village. Was Johan Danish? I found lots of Neverman on the west coast, but none that match. Karen

hello! yes, I think Johans parents were from Denmark, but that´s all I know..I think he left Finland earlier and Brita and the children left later in 1920. where did you find the children? how old are they and do they have children? I also tried neverman on facebook, but they all lived elsewhere..
a couple of weeks ago I found a lot of relatives in a book and now I have about 15 relatives to look for! =)
Have a nice day!

Cate,
I only found the children, Johan, August and Anna on the arrivals. I have not found them anywhere in the US under Neverman. I've found lots of Neverman, but not them. Sanna Brita was not with Anna and August when they came in 1920. She and Ida must have come at a different time. I found no Neverman in Seattle. Karen

Cate,
The only Neverman I found in the phone directory in Seattle is a Homer Neverman. I found Johan's birth on LDS. Johan Ernst Wilhelm Nevermann was christened 14 July 1867 in Saeby, Kobenhavn, Demark. His parents were Carl Henrik Friedrik Nevermann and Marie Sophie Bolke. Batch C219733 1855-1880 Source call #0048393. Karen

Cate,
I found the family in Seattle. Looks like they used the surname Newman. I'll attach the 1920 and 1930 census and some WWI Draft Registration for the boys. I'll have to do it in 2 posts. You'll see that one of the sons is on the 1930 census just above the parents.
From the WA Death Index and SSDI:

Sanna B Newman died 27 Apr 1948 in King County, WA
John E Newman died 23 Sep 1949 in King County, WA
John W Newman born 15 Feb 1892 and died May 1969 in Seattle, King, WA
Reynold Newman born 5 Feb 1899 and died 3 Dec 1984 in Seattle, King, WA.

So this solves the mystery of why I couldn't find them under Neverman.

Edith S Newman, Johan Wilhelm's wife (William) was born 21 May 1891 and died20 Dec 1987 in Seattle. SSDI and WA Death Index. I found one William R Newman in the Public Records. I'll send his info PM as he may still be living.
No luck with the two daughters of John and Sanna Brita. Karen

Wow! thank you very very much! interesting that they changed their names..
Am I wrong or did Edit Sofia Eklund, who I´m also looking for got married to Johan Wilhelm..They were cousins and also cousins with my grandmother! I still have to check if it really was so.. Do you, by the way, know if there is a site where you can look for peoples email-addresses? That would be a big help to ask the younger ones if they are related..and also facebook of course..!

Karen Norwillo
25-04-08, 15:46
Cate,
As they only list Edith as Edith S, I don't know if she is Edith Sofia. How close cousins were they? I know there's a way to trace email addresses, but I don't know how? Someone more computer literate than I can probably tell you. Karen

hi! if it is THAT edit, her and johans mothers were sisters.
now I´ve spent the whole day searching different sites.. =)
have a nice weekend!

Cate,
That would make them first cousins. In most states such a marriage would be prohibited. I found the arrival of Edith S Eklund and her mother and siblings going to Isak Ecklund in Pueblo, CO in 1901. I also found her on the 1910 census still in CO. Does this info fit? You can inquire abot a marriage license to:
King County Marriage Records
King County Administration Building
500-4th Ave Room 311
Seattle, WA 98109
or try a RAOGK query and maybe someone will do a lookup for you. I would guess they married between 1921-1922. Edith says they've been married 8 years in 1930. There is one person in Seattle I found who will do lookups at the Court House. If you Google RAOGK Seattle, then go down the list to Don Anderson, fill in your request, give him details and see if he is willing to do a search.Good luck.

Cate,
On Ancestry "One World Tree" I found the following:
Edith Sofia Eklund 21 May 1891 Kantlax, No Spara, Munsala, Finland, died Mar 1987 Seattle, WA, Father Isak Mattsson Eklund, Mother Anna Lovisa Gustafsdotter, Spouse William Newman.Isak's parents were Matts J Pet and Maria L Nylund. Anna's parents were Karl Gustaf Byman and Greta Spara.
So it looks like Edith married a first cousin if Anna and Sanna Brita were sisters. Very unusual.

Cate,
Arne Nylund's Collection on Talko has the family. Anna Lovisa Karl-Gustafsdotter 25 Jan 1863, Sanna Brita Karl-Gustafsdotter 12 Jan 1868. Father Karl-Gustaf Mårtensson Byman 31 Dec 1835. Mother Greta Eriksdotter Spåra.Isak Mattsson Pet, later Eklund 7 Oct 1870 Pet, Hirvlax, Munsala and Anna Maria Karl-Gustafsdotter Byman were the parents of Edith Sofia Isaksdotter Eklund. They were married 23 Mar 1891 in Munsala. Hiski. Isak Mattsson Pet and Anna Lovisa Karl-Gustafsdotter Spåra.

Cate,
Here is the Eklund family in CO in 1920. You'll see Isak (Ike) is a widower and there is a son Eddie who must be George, probably George Edward??? Below Ike is Alfred and his family. Edith S is living with them. Did you notice the George Eklund in 1930 living with William and Edith, listed as brother-in-law. So Anna Lovisa died between the 1910-1920 censuses. Karen

Here's the large family of Alfred and Ida in 1930. I also found his WWI Draft Reg. Says Alfred I Eklund born 13 Oct 1892 in Stockholm, Sweden. Lives at 1106 Crystal Place, Pueblo, CO. Naturalized when father naturalized, wife and 3 kids. Ida Eklund 12 Jul 1892 died Jun 1985 in Beulah, Pueblo, CO.

Karen Norwillo

Cate,
Isak Alfred used Alfred in CO. He was born 13 Oct 1892 and died Oct 1970.
Ida M Eklund born 12 Jul 1892 and died Jun 1985 in Burien, Pueblo, CO. Children are: Alfred J born 1912, Edith M abt 1914, Lois C or E abt 1916, Howard J 1923, Raymond P 1929 and Ethel B abt 1924. All born CO.

Howard J is found in Seattle, I'll send info PM.
Raymond P Eklund 24 Oct 1929 and died Nov 1952 in CO.
Alfred J is found in Shelton, WA with son. I'll send PM.

Did some more searching. On the Pueblo GenWeb, I found the obit of Alfred I Eklund in 1970.

Eklund, Alfred I-Pueblo Chieftain (newspaper) Oct 13, 1970-
Alfred I Eklund of 118 Lake, Oct 12, 1970. Husband of Ida M Eklund. Father of Mrs. Edith Davis and Mrs. Ethel Gruenewald, both of Pueblo; Mrs. Lois Rhoads, Webster Grove, MO and Alfred J and Howard J Eklund, both of Seattle, WA. Brother of Albert C Eklund and Mrs Edith Newman, both of Seattle. Father-in-law of Mrs Mary Georg Rick, Pueblo. Survived also by 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Member of St Patrick Parish, Pueblo, Pueblo Elks Lodge 90 and the Half Century Club. Mr Eklund was born Oct 13, 1892 in Sweden and resided in Pueblo for 69 years. He retired in 1960 from the CF&I quality control department following an employment of 53 years. Following his retirement, he operated the Eklund Sharpening Service. Rosary recitation 7:30 pm. Wednesday, Funeral Home Drawing Room. Mass of Resurrection 10 am Thursday, St Patrick Church. Elks commital Roselawn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Pueblo County Cancer Society or the Pueblo County Heart Unit.

What a find. I saw on the census that Ida's parents were born in N. Ireland, so she must have been Catholic and he converted.
I'm curious who that daughter-in-law is. The only son not mentioned is Raymond. Maybe his widow who remarried?

Karen Norwillo

Checked that same site for Mary Rick and she was the widow of Raymond P Eklund who died in 1952. Her full name was Mary Georgia Mc Govern, Eklund, then Rick. She died in 2005. She also was Catholic, so maybe the Eklund family was also. Karen

This is from the obit of the husband of Lois Eklund Rhoades. He was Roy Edward Rhoades who died 1 Nov 1998 in St Louis, Missouri. He was a retired executive and life-long employee of Ford Motors. He was 84 and had Alzheimers. Lois was dead (1996) There are 4 children listed. I'll send names PM. Also 10 grandkids and 2 ggrandkids. They also were Catholic. Karen

hello! what a find!! I wish I had more time to explore these things..I need to put all of my finds in a book or a site. You wrote that Idas parents were born in Ireland..That is quite strange and there have never been catholics in my grandmothers village (Kantlax)..so I wonder if it is the same one..or maybe it´s just that they left from Ireland by boat to america..? I need to look at all this information this weekend if I have time, I really hope so because I´m really addicted to this genealogy now =)

Cate,
If you look at that 1930 census for Alfred and Ida, you'll see that Ida was born in Colorado. Her parents were born in Ireland. When Alfred married her, he may have converted to Catholic and raised his family as Catholic. That doesn't mean the rest of the family, Alfred's brothers and sisters, were Catholic. They were probably Lutheran as most Finns were or Baptist. Ida was not Finnish as far as I can see.

Cate,
I made an inquirey to RAOGK in Pueblo only this morning and I heard back from a most helpful lady. She gave me this info

Eklund, Alfred married Connelly, Ida M 20 Sep 1911 in Pueblo County. Rec# 11944 Colorado Marriages 1858-1939 Denver Public Library

Roselawn Cemetery

Eklund Alfred I 78 10-12-1970, buried 10-15-1970 location 41 91 3
Eklund Ida M 93 06-08-1895, buried 06-12-1985 location 41 91 2
Eklund Isaac 59 buried 01-04-1930 68 1 10 3
Eklund Anna Louise 50 buried 06-22-1913 68 1 10 2

She is going to email me a copy of Ida's obit from the newspaper.
There are a total of 11 Eklund's buried in Roselawn. Maybe Issac had relatives who came to Pueblo.

Albert C Eklund, Alfred's brother, was born 2 Dec 1903 and died 17 Apr 1990 in Federal Way, WA He was 86. SSDI and WA Death Index.

Raymond Paul Eklund, Alfred's son, died at age 23 and is also buried in Roselawn Cemetery. Buried 10-11-1952 29 311 1. These numbers usually refer to section, lot and location on lot. He was very young when he died.

Cate,
Here is the obit of Ida Eklund. It is very full of information and fills in the years between 1970-1985 as far as the family is concerned, deaths, more grandchildren, locations of people. It looks like Ida Connelly came to Pueblo from Denver a year after the 1910 census, where she was at home with father James, mother Nellie and younger brother Charley. On a map of CO, Pueblo is directly south of Denver.

Cate,
I believe theses are the children of Lois and Roy Rhoades. Alfred's obit has her in Missouri in 1970. Ida's has her now in Florida in 1985. I found the obit of Roy E Rhoades in SSDI. Roy E Rhoades 26 Jul 1914 and died 1 Nov 1998 in Chesterfield, St Louis, MO
I found a Lois E Rhoades in Public Information. It shows her in Port Charlotte, FL and also in Chesterfield, MO. Also listed are Roy E Rhoades, Karen R, Gregory Matthew, Matthew C, Ronald E and Toy E. It doesn't give the year.

hello again! I guess that there is again a mistake in this text that he was born in sweden..maybe it says so because his language was swedish, even though he came from finland..
I´ve found a jt rhoades, who sys his aunt is roxanne. now I jsut can´t find the email where you wrote that one of the children was roxanne..
I´ve had a break with this genealogy now, but I´m back on track this week!
