Here is a note from the office of the Consulate General of Finland

Dear Finns and Friends of Finns

Feel free to forward this information to anyone who might be interested.

Former Finnish citizens living abroad and their descendants have the
opportunity to acquire Finnish citizenship.
Please note that the deadline is May 31st 2008.

Former Finnish citizens have the opportunity to re-acquire Finnish
citizenship by declaration, if they have lost it when acquiring the
citizenship of another country, for example. Anyone who acquired the US
citizenship before June 1st 2003 automatically lost the Finnish
citizenship. Descendants of former and current Finnish citizens may also
acquire Finnish citizenship by declaration, even if they have never had
citizenship.
The declaration must be made at the latest on 31 May 2008.

Finnish citizenship is an opportunity to...
* pass Finnish citizenship down to your children
* strengthen ties to your home country and unite the bonds between
states via individuals
* experience Finnishness
* belong to a group
* obtain a Finnish passport
* vote in elections
* become an EU citizen
* travel more freely, and to live and work in all your citizenship
states and in EU countries
