Irene Torppa was born in Naselle, WA to Oscar and Ida Torppa who immigrated from Finland. Irene grew up with her siblings on a Lewis River and attended Clover Valley School. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1931 and married Lloyd Savage in 1933.They lived in Woodland; Sumpter, OR; and Salmon, ID before settling in Portland in 1948.

Irene was a homemaker and worked in retail sales for many years. In 1971, Lloyd and Irene moved to Vancouver and continued square dancing and other activities with a wide circle of friends.

Irene was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, Alpine Chapter, and volunteered at the Hulda Klager Lilac Garden. She enjoyed rug-making, collecting antiques, especially coffee pots, and gardening. Irene enjoyed traveling including visiting relatives in Finland.

Most important to her were family and friends and she enjoyed having celebrations and parties.

The family appreciates the care Irene received at Cedar Highlands.
She is survived by daughter Jean; son, Tom; granddaughter Erica; and by many nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by Lloyd in 1988; and by her siblings.
The family is planning a celebration of her life.
