Trying once more:

Looking for information about following brothers (or their descendants), all born in Pielisjarvi, Northern Carelia, Finland, and all migrating from Raakkyla, Carelia:

Mikko/Mike Winter, b Aug 13, 1889. Arrival NY Nov 4, 1912, and going to Clinton, Mass. Cousin Taavi Tuorela living in Pigeon Cove, Mass. Enlisted Maine Military Men 1917-1918, residence Redington, private, rejected May 1, 1918. In 1920 living in Washington, Sullivan Cty, New Hampshire, as a border, working for a lumber company.

Edward Winter, b July 21, 1887. Arrival NY May 19, 1913, going to friend Henrik Jokela (Henric Joccela) in Pigeon Cove, Mass.

Erik Samuel Winter, b June 8, 1885. Arrival Boston Sept 24, 1913, going to brother Mikko in Pigeon Cove, Mass.

Thanks again to Kerstin for information about arrival etc.

Family legend has it, that one of the brothers went to California as a fruit-picker. Silly me can't help wondering if there is some connection with the many-talented actor Edward Winter, b June 3, 1937, d March 8, 2001, (best known as colonel Flagg in M.A.S.H.) since he had such 'Finnish' eyes.

Any further information would be highly appreciated.

Hi,
Better yet, they could be related to Edgar and Johnny Winter, famous for the Tobacco Road song which I love! :D

Denise :)

P.S. I'll see what I can find.

Not to give in - characteristic for a Finn?

I repeat my question, does anyone know anything about these persons? I doubt that all three, young and healthy men, remained unmarried. So with great hopes...........

Hi Ritva,
This might be your Mikko Winter working in a lumber camp in New Hampshire in 1920. All the other info. birth/immigration, seems to match.

Best Regards,
Denise

Hi Ritva,
Here is a link to the area Mike Winter was living in 1920. There is an email for a man named Algrid Krygeris that appears will do lookups. His email address is

It's most certainly the right person.

I'll send a mail to the historian, good idea! Washington seems to be a very pretty place an he will probably be able to give me more information about the lumber company and other facts.

Thank you so much, Denise!

So, two of the brothers returned, hardly on a visit. I'll try to find out where such records are kept.

Thank you again, Kerstin!!

Hi Ritva,
Wonder if it's possible that 1921 is the year Mikko Winter died? and then the other two brothers returned to Finland? Just a thought.

Hi Ritva,
This Mike Winter may be a bit farfetched, but...I'm wondering if the spouse spoke German and she answered the questions to the census taker.

Very likely the right Mike. Since his wife is also born in 'Russia' (The Grand-
Duchy of Finland since 1809) he found himself a Finnish girl and became - at last - a farmer.

Thank you so much, Denise!!

Hi Ritva,
Ignore the 1930 Census I just sent you. It is NOT the right Mike Winter. I'm positive the one in Washington State is not him as I just found the wrong one in the 1920 Census too. But here is your Mike Winter's WW1 Draft Card and rejection.
Best Regards,
Denise
