I have been able to determine through a ships passenger list that Wilhelmiina Virtala (abt 1859) and her children Nestor( 6 Jun 1882), Hilma(abt 1883), Ella (abt 1887), Viktor (16 Mar 1884), and Milja(Mildred) (abt 1900) all came from Honkajoki, Finland. Wilhelmiina married a man with the surname Isosalo. Isosalo was changed to Salo in the US. I have had no luck in finding any birth records after searching several different databases. records seem to be from the late 1700's or early 1800's. I have found some Isosalo records from the 1700's but have no way to connect them to my family tree as of yet. All of the children and Wilhelmiina immigtated to the US between 1902 -1913 settling in Rockport, MA , western Mass. , and Connecticut.
Anybody out there know anything about these ancestors or have any ideas on where I may turn? I have recently e-maild the church in Honkajoki but have not received a reply from them.

I found a Family Tree on Ancestry, unable to open, private, but it gave me a clue that Wilhelmina was from Karvia, a neighbor to Honkajoki. I think I found her birth record in 1859. A Wilhelmina was born 12 May 1859 to Johan Hermanpoika Vertäjä and wife Anna, it looks like Yrontytär, but I'm not sure. I also found the family on the Rippi in 1860. There are lots of Isosalo in Honkajoki, but without finding their marriage for a first name, he's hard to trace. Vertäjä could have evolved into Virtala. Looks like her 2 brothers born 1854 and 1857 died.
I hope I didn't crop the images too small. If so, I will redo.

Thank you Karen. I will continue to search through the database. Some is certainly hard to read. I am sending the information to a recently located cousin in Finland who speaks english. She is a terrific help!

Kaarina,
Do you know of anybody researching Honkajoki? I am pretty sure Wilhelmiina's surname was Wiitala. The Family tree karen is referring to is my own tree. We have determined that Honajoki is the likely birthplace.

Hope these aren't too small.

On those Rippi images

Erik Eriksson 18.9.1810 is Ander's father. Walborg 2.12.1807 is his mother. Of course Anders Eriksson 7.9.1836 and Anna Kaisa Eriksdotter-Ahola are Wilhelmina, Johan Nestori and Albertina's parents. Erik Eriksson 14.7.1842 is Anders' brother, Wilhelmina Mariasdotter 7.1.1844 is his wife and Mathilda Wilhelmina 19.1.1870 their daughter.
You'll notice when one of the son's marry, they move them and their new family below on the same page, so they may appear more than once on a page. Just compare birth dates. Looks like on the first image there's a Johan Eriksson who died. He would have been Erik Eriksson and Walborg's son. Born 3.4.1840 and died 16.11.1863 (far right)

Here's the marriage of Erik and Walborg on 26.6.1836. I can't make out what the name is after Erik Eriksson. Walborg is Andersdr. Myllyharju.
I found the Myllyharju and Viitala in attached Rippi. I'll have to do in next post, too big.

Here's the Rippi. You'll notice Anders is on it 3 times. Don't know why? You'll see there are more children of Erik and Walborg on this one. This is 1849-1855.
