I am having a terrible time researching Fred and Marie Carlson. I have even gone to the Mormon Family History Library and ordered parish records from Vaasa (which by the way, the library I went to gets to keep these records forever since the are on microfiche so if needed I can look up info.) I do need help though because I have been unable to find any info in the records on Carlson or Granfors.

Fred born 1875 and Maria born 1871. Both immigrated around 1890-91. I can't find the immigration record either. The were married in 1894 in Duluth, MN and had my grandfather in 1897. They moved to Bronx, NY around 1900. I cannot find them in the 1910 census. I believe Fred Carlson had a sister Lena and 2 brothers Alfred and Charles. Lena married John Alfred Granfors. All moved to Bronx, NY at the same time.
They were carpenters and I believe they may have worked as dock builders? Charles Carlson lived at 550 East 134 Street, Bronx, NY. Which seems to have been a hot spot for Finnish people.

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. -Leah

Do you have days for the birth dates? Do you know the Finnish farm names?

I believe Marie was born in Nov 1871 and Fred in Jan 1875, this information from the 1900 census. John Sture Carlson was born 23 Aug 1897 in Duluth, MN. He appears in the WWI draft registration living in New York, NY. As his nearest living relative he lists Charles Carlson. Why not his father or mother? They must have died or moved.

Where did you pick up the information about Vasa and Närpes? Carlsson and Granfors are also names from Kristinestad. But Carlsson might also just be the patronymicon their fathers ame was Carl...

I have a picture of my gr grandmother, Maria taken in Vaasa. However, I am starting to believe they were not from Vaasa since I can't find any one matching in the parish records at the Mormon library. I thought it would be a good starting point. I also have another picture taken in NY of the 1908 NY Wasa Sporting Club. Do you think it is possible Maria and her family visited Vaasa just to have their picture taken?

Here's the Carlsons and Granfors in Duluth in 1895. Also found the Granfors in 1910 and 1920. In 1920, Lena was in Bronx with children Oscar 17, Ester 25, Elsie 16, Edna 14 and a border Charles Wilson. No John there. In 1930, Elsie Granfors was living in Bronx with her sister Edith and her husband Charles Ohlson. No sign of the Carlsons in Bronx.

Here's the 1910 census. John is on the bottom of the previous page. He's a carpenter, age 42.
