I'm trying to find a record of my great-great aunt's birth and parents' names. Her name was Sophia, and I believe her maiden name was Hakala. She was born in March of 1885 in Kyro (Karinainen), Finland and came to the US around 1893. HISKI does not have the info I need. Any ideas where I may find a birth or christening record?

HisKi doesn't have a place named Kyro or Kyra. What other name would apply?

In Tammela, Lunttila vlg. I found a Sofia Hakala, b. 5 Jan 1885 on Hakala farm to Maria Johansdotter.

Kyrö could likely be part of the parish of Pöytyä, north and east of Turku and due east of Uusikaupunki.

It is also, just north of Aura.

Karinainen is south and east of Pöytyä, but quite close.

Pöytyä is listed in HisKi.

There are several Hakala names there, but the birth information cuts off at 1850.

Also, some of my ancestors were the Inn Keepers at Kyrön Skanssi in Karvia, so I'm not sure if this is any connection or not, since these two places are not very close to each other.

I just checked HisKi and they consider Kerinainen as part of Varsinais-Suomi - and no transcriptions have been started yet.

In the Slotte family there was a Heikki Jalmari Hakala, b. 1881 in Kaustby, who died in Angora, MN.

Karinainen (old name Kyrö) has its own communion books (rippikirja) from 1796 (see HisKi information (http://hiski.genealogia.fi/seurakunnat/srk?CMD=SRK&ID=167&TYPE=HTML&LANG=EN) - can be found by first selecting Marttila and then its neighbor). History books (births, marriages, deaths) are among Marttila - at least they seem to be around the given year 1885.

There seems to be one possible match for you:
3 Nov 1885 Edla Sofiia, parents crofter Juho Hakala and Maija Juhontytär from Siikarla farm of Suutarla village. See image (http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/kirjat/Kirkonkirjat/marttila/syntyneet_1885-1899_mko32-39/kuvat/14.jpg)
Place in map (http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/karttalinkki/karttalinkki.html?e=269582&n=6730652&scale=16000&tool=siirra&lang=en). Karinainen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karinainen) is now part of Pöytyä since 2005.

Thank you all so much. I will try to locate other info on my family with the help you've given me :)
Jaska, How did you get that image? I'm wondering if my great grandmother Aina Maria was born in the same area 1888-1889. I believe her last name was NOT also Hakala.
