Katheryn "Lydia" Rasanen Waldal, age 93, died April 28, 2010 at Woodland Care Center in Woodland, WA. She was born on Oct. 30, 1916 in New York Mills, MN to parents, Mauno Rasanen and Johanna Maria Hyry Rasanen. They moved to Plummer, MN where she was raised.

Lydia was married to James "Jim" Waldal for 66 years, living in various places in Washington, Oregon and Arizona, but settling in Clark County, WA.

She loved both vegetable and flower gardening and was an avid knitter and crocheter, seamstress and capable of many things.

Lydia lived and taught her faith in Christ and would many times thank God for His love and care.

To the end she left everything in God's hands.

Lydia is survived by sons: Wayne (Anne) Waldal of Tigard, OR, Dave (Babs) Waldal of Ridgefield, WA, Dennis (Judy) Waldal of Goldendale, WA, Howard (Kathy) Waldal of Vancouver, WA, Art (Carol) Waldal of Battle Ground, WA, Chuck (Danita) Waldal of Battle Ground, WA, Norman Waldal of Brush Prairie, WA; and by daughters: Sharon (Chuck) Matson of Yacolt, WA, Linda Hanson of Portland, OR, Louise (Wayne) Matson of Amboy, WA; 34 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Waldal; daughter, Marie Bricker-Hayden; first granddaughter, Kathryn Vivian Matson; and son-in-law, Leigh Hanson.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 16108 NE 192nd Ave., Brush Prairie, WA with viewing starting at 2:00 p.m. before the services. Visitation is also scheduled on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. also at the church. Interment will be in Gravel Point Cemetery, Battle Ground, WA.

It is unclear to me if the original name was Rasanen or Räsänen, since both seem to be names available in HisKi.
