I am researching my Far-mor's family from Vasa. I have been able to trace them back to Koskis Bruk in the mid to late 1700's. I have hit a roadblock with the early records. I am trying to find the family of Magnus Eklund, b. about 1752 (according to his death record), died in Koskis 6 Jun 1793. I have found a few birth records where Magnus is listed as witness to baptism. I am hoping to prove these other Eklunds are Magnus' siblings. I do not know where Magnus was born. The names that I have found with his are:
Lovisa Eklund, m. Johan Kempe. Lovisa named a son Magnus 2 months after "my" Magnus died. Other names are: Lars Eklund, Stina Eklund, Ulrika Eklund, and Caisa Eklund.
If someone would be so kind to translate a birth record for me:

http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/kirjat/Kirkonkirjat/kosken_tehdas/syntyneet-vihityt-kuolleet_1760-1809_jk870/22.htm

The entry is for a Lovisa, in the year 1763, it's the first entry on the left page. I have found a rippikirja entry for Johan Kempe and Lovisa Eklund at

http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/kirjat/Kirkonkirjat/kosken_tehdas/syntyneet-vihityt-kuolleet_1760-1809_jk870/22.htm

This is where I found her birth year listed. I do not see any Eklund mentioned in the birth record, but am hoping I missed something.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm also open to any suggestions on how to proceed from here in trying to find Magnus Eklunds parents/siblings.

Sorry, the above address for the Rippikirja entry for Johan Kempe and Lovisa Eklund is incorrect. This is the correct link:

Thanks.

Diane,

Lovisa born on 11 Dec 1763 is a daughter of Anders Murare and Mertha Nilsdotter. She died on 10 Jun 1775 according to HisKi.
No luck there, I'm afraid.

Thanks Jaska. I thought it was a long-shot. Do you think you could take a look at the Rippikirja for the family, and tell me what is written in the last column? I believe it is a "moved to" place (I recognize Tenala in the family above the Eklunds), but I don't recognize what places are written, next to Ulrika, Justina, Magnus and Ewa Lisa. Thanks so much for your help.

Movements of the children of Johan Kempe and Lovisa Eklund:
Ulrika 1785 to Lojo (fi Lohja)
Justina 1787 to Kimito
Maja Lovisa 1791 to Kisko (perhaps she returned as death is recorded in 1809)
Magnus 1793 to Stockholm (!?) 1813

Not so far except for Magnus, if I read that destination correctly.
See border map (http://hiski.genealogia.fi/seurakunnat/srk?CMD=MAP&ID=231&TYPE=HTML&LANG=EN) on HisKi site. Lohja/Lojo is a bit further east.

Diane,

You may add Carl Eklund to probable siblings. He married 19.10.1783 with Christina Rostedt.
Eg. daughter Stina Lotta b. 6.5.1785 had godparents: Mårten Andersson Keij, skräddaren (tailor) Johan Kempe, hammarsmeden (hammer smith) Magnus Eklund, hustru Sara Benich, hustru Lovisa Eklund, pig (maid) Ulrica Eklund.
Carl Eklund died 24.2.1796 at the age of 36.

Jaska, Thank you for your help. I will add Carl Eklund to my list of possible siblings. I know with my Swedish relatives, when I got to the 1700's and early 1800's in my research, I found that I had reached a point before they started using the family name, and were just Patronymic names. Is it the same in Finland? I will see if I can locate Magnus Kempe's arrival in Stockholm in 1813 to try to verify your educated guess of location.
Thank you again.
