Eino J. Filla died on May 31, 2010. He was born March 15, 1923 to Jacob and Aina Filla in Woodland, WA. He attended Woodland schools.
Eino served with the 96th Infantry Division Deadeyes in WWII. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, 2 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart for his actions on Okinawa.
After he returned from the war, he worked as an independent truck driver. He also worked at International Paper in Chelatchie Prairie until they closed in 1973. He was also a tree farmer, a water witcher and a proud member of the Gus Forbes Post of the VFW in Woodland, WA, the 96th Infantry Division Association and the La Center Grange.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, clam digging and the shows "Jeopardy!" and "The Price is Right."
He is survived by his wife Theresa; 3 sons, John, of Woodland, WA, Alfred of La Center and Tim (and his wife, Sherree) of Vancouver; one daughter, Angela Ferguson, of La Center; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Reijonen Rood and Gertrude O'Brien.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations go to either the VFW or the charity of your choice.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 4th at 3:00 PM at Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground, WA followed by a burial service at Frank Abel Cemetery in Woodland. Visitation will be Thursday, June 3, 2010 from 6:30-8:30 PM at the funeral home.
