John A. Nystrom, 75, Superior, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, in his home surrounded by his children.

He was born on May 16, 1935, in Mason, Wis. to Herbert and Margaret (Olson) Nystrom.

He served in the United States Army during which time he was stationed in Germany for two years.

He was employed as a carpenter for Badger Buildings for many years retiring in 2005.

John was 40 year member of the Elks Lodge 403 and just recently became a member of the Moose Lodge 606. He coached little league baseball for five years and served on the Douglas County Board for 18 years.

He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends, watching his grandchildren play sports and he was always there to help his friends.

John is survived by six children, Janet (Paul) Ryan, Rushford, Minn., Jon (Deborah) Nystrom, Lino Lakes, Minn., Jodi (Dan) Peters, Wyoming, Minn., Jeff Nystrom, Los Angeles, Calif., Julie (Bob) Archambault, Superior and Jim (Kelly) Nystrom, Superior; 12 grandchildren, Steve (Lynn), Michelle and Renee Ryan, Lindsay and Alex Nystrom, Seth, Caleb and Courtney Peters, Matt and Melissa Archambault, Tyler and Rylee Nystrom; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Larissa and Ben Ryan; seven brothers and sisters, Beatrice Landman, Texas, Lois (Bob) Cleveland, Calif., Marion (Elmer) Westlund, Wisconsin, Maxine Sawyer, Wisconsin, Herb Nystrom, Minnesota, Jane Nordin, Minnesota and Joan Koch, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Vernette Nystrom, Wisconsin and Maxine Nystrom, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Willard and Howard Nystrom.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home with an Elks Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service on Thursday, July 1, 2010, also in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home with Chaplain Dulce Proud of St. Luke’s Hospital officiating. Lunch will be at the Elks Club following the funeral service.

Burial will be Mason, Wis. at a later date.
