Shirley M. Aho, 75, of Duluth passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010.

Shirley M. Aho Shirley M. Aho, 75, of Duluth passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010, peacefully in her home after a beautifully valiant battle with lung cancer.

She was born May 2, 1935, in Brule to Matt and Linda Eskeli. Shirley graduated from Northwestern High School in 1953 (married Marvin Aho in 1956). She worked very hard all her life trying out various jobs throughout Duluth and Superior before settling on a position in the Douglas County Clerk’s office, where she retired from in 1997 and after 24 years of employment. Shirley loved gardening and doing crafts, but most of all she loved spending time with her friends, family and her brilliant and loyal dog, Silly Sally.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother, Gene Brown.

She is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Keith) Fleischer; son, Ronald Aho; grandchildren, Linda Perry, Jennifer Fleischer, Jesse (Heidi) Fleischer and Crystal (Craig) Prior; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Oliver (Gladys) Puttika of Wadena, Minn.; one niece, Denise Brown and three nephews, Kevin Brown, Steve Brown and Bill Puttika. She also leaves behind three very special friends who helped to take care of her in her final days; Jim Kentros, Linda Aho and Beth DeMars.

Shirley’s loving humor, personality and Finnish Sisu touched the lives of everyone she met and she will be missed dearly.

Friends and neighbors are invited to Shirley’s celebration of life party to be held 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 18 at the Superior Moose Club.
