Lance Leonard Lind, 68, of South Range died Saturday, July 25, 2010, surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 10, 1941, to Curtiss and Florence (Tyykila) Lind. Lance was united in marriage to Marilyn Leskela on Feb. 17, 1962. They were blessed to have shared 48 years. He loved his wife dearly and though in later years she was in a nursing home, Lance visited her every day. He joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany, where Lance met his lifelong friend, Douglas Ziegenhagen. He began sailing on the Great Lakes in 1962 and worked on many ships and most recently was employed by Great Lakes Towing Company. Lance said he couldn't have found a better group of people to work with. He built many houses in his life. The ones that will be most cherished are those of his children, his touch will be seen every day in the homes he helped to build. Lance was quite a storyteller. He had many stories and often had his listeners laughing and in tears; the amazing part is most of them were true. Lance loved hunting and cooking, but his greatest pastime was fishing with family and friends on his Lake Superior fishing boat. He kept a photo album and diary of fishing trips, they were his greatest possessions.

Lance loved to gather his family for Sunday dinners. His family and grandchildren were very dear to him. Lance’s family love and miss him terribly and appreciate and treasure all that he taught them.

Lance was preceeded in death by his wife, and daughter, Andrea Lind.

He is survived by his children, daughters, Deanna (Arne) Wahlquist, Corrina Lind and Laura Lind; son, Daniel (Rachel) Lind; grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah, Karlina, Nora, Hunter, Hailee, Arianna, Erin and Mary; aunt, Edna (Loyd) Swenson; sister, Connie and mother, Florence Hurley; treasured friends, Doug and Sue Ziegenhagen and many fishing buddies.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Oulu with Pastor Scott Stai officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Services entrusted to the Cremation Society of Minnesota, (218) 624-5200.
