Allen Leroy Illikainen, 76, of Wrenshall, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, in Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lisbon, N.D., on May 30, 1934, to Eino and Irene Illikainen. He grew up in Moose Lake with his parents and sister Bev (Bud) Newbloom.

Allen married Donna Jakubek on Dec. 5, 1959. They had just celebrated 51 years together. He had been an employee of Reach-All Manufacturing for about 22 years, making many good friends there. He retired in 1990 and pursued many hobbies including playing the drums, fishing, hunting and camping with family, especially on the 4th of July in Moose Lake. Allen enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events, which included football, hockey, basketball, dance, soccer and track events.

We will lovingly remember him as a good husband, father, grandfather and hard worker. We always enjoyed his fishing stories (the fish were always "big").

Allen is survived by his wife, Donna; sons Curtis (Colleen) of Plymouth, Minn., Darin (Mary) of Grand Rapids, and Daryl (Joy) of Hermantown; daughters Bonnie Harmon of Las Vegas, Nev., and Beth (Mike) Linn of Leona Valley, Calif.; and grandchildren, Tyler, Beau, Nikki, Jenna, Chad, Morgan, Molly, Alex, Madison and Camille. He was also “grandpa” to Kathy’s daughters, Alexis and Tori.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to St. Mary’s ICU and Hospice and also to all of our family of friends.

VISITATION: 2 until the 3 p.m. celebration of life service Sunday, Dec. 12, in the Sunrise Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunrise Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Al would have appreciated memorials to be directed for toys for children in need in our area.

For us, there is no higher honor than to bring loved ones, friends and a lifetime of memories together in celebration of a special life.
