Sadie Partlow of Vancouver, WA, born on Dec. 30, 1923 to George and Emily [Emelia Hill born 10 Apr 1891] Kari, passed away on Dec. 14, 2010, just days before her 87th birthday. She lived in the Hockinson and Battle Ground area. After graduating from high school, World War II started, so she took a non-traditional job for a woman, pumping gas at the co-op service station in Battle Ground, where she met her husband, Larry Partlow.

The were married Feb. 7, 1945 and settled on the family farm near Battle Ground where they raised their children. When they sold the farm in 1967, they built the home they always dreamed of, doing all the work themselves. During the project Sadie became an accomplished stone mason, doing the stone work on the face of the house and on the 5 fireplaces. Once finished, every summer found a new project to enhance their creation, including a Dutch windmill, an Oriental Pagoda and a man-made creek and fish pond. Their home truly became "The Castle", where she hosted many family occasions (birthdays, weddings and anniversaries). She also hosted the senior girls of Battle Ground High School for the annual Mother-Daughter Tea.

Sadie began a second career working in nursing homes as an Activities Director. She loved this job as it allowed her to share her love of art, craft and antiques with the patients she served. She was always attentive to their needs and went out of her way to show care and compassion to all she served. She retired in 1985.

Sadie loved to travel, and the family took many driving trips around the western U.S. After retiring, Sadie and Larry went on an extended tour of Europe including Italy, France and the British Isles.

Sadie is survived by her son, Dennis (Kathy); daughters, Sharon Boss (John) and Colleen Martin (Al); her nephew and nieces, Warren Weimer (Judie), Beverly Vail, Helen Craig (Terry) and Mary Cumpston;seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lawrence; and her sister, Irene Weimer.

Services will be held on Sat., Dec. 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Layne's Funeral Home, 16 NE Clark Ave., Battle Ground, WA, with hospitality following at Battle Ground Community Center.
