The following is the quote of my friend:

I recently noticed that Library and Archives Canada (a.k.a. Collections Canada) has digitized a whole whack of microfilms. Many of these scans (particularly the 1925-1935 Canadian Passenger Lists) were only available through a pricey Ancestry.ca subscription (aside from the "analog" inter-archive loan program), but thankfully the tide appears to be turning.

Now available digitally and on-line in this collection (click on the above link):

1 * Form 30, Border Entry Records, 1919-1924
2 * School Files Series - 1879-1953 (RG10)
3 * Form 30A, Ocean Arrivals, 1919-1924
4 * Sir John Thompson fonds - Letters received
5 * Sir John Thompson fonds - Letterbooks
6 * Sir John Thompson fonds - Diary and other material
7 * Passenger Lists: Quebec City (1925 - 1935)
8 * Passenger Lists: Montreal (1925 - 1935)
9 * Passenger Lists: Halifax (1925 - 1935)
10 * Passenger Lists: Saint John (1925 - 1935)
11 * Passenger Lists: North Sydney (1925 - 1935)
12 * Passenger Lists: Vancouver and Victoria (1925 - 1935)
13 * Passenger Lists: New York (1925 - 1935)
14 * Passenger Lists: Eastern U.S. Ports (1925 - 1935)
15 * Census of the Prairie Provinces, 1916

It appears that some of these (i.e. the 1916 census) are still in process of being cataloged.
