I am trying to identify the bride and groom in this photo. It was found in family records in Purmo and could possibly be the wedding of my great grandparents, Greta-Lisa Pehrsdotter and Peter Pettersson, who lived in Purmo. HISKI records show they were married on 23 March 1872. Later photos of Greta look similar to the bride.

The photo shows grass in the field growing nearly a foot tall, leaves on some of the bushes and many women in short sleeved dresses.

Looking at the dress of the participants and the surroundings, would it be possible for it to be mid-March, 1872 in this part of Finland? Or is that completely out of the question because Purmo usually is under three feet of snow in mid-March and its below freezing still?

No grass yet in March.
On the other hand I don't believe they got that quality of outdoor photos in 1872 - more like early 1900s.
Ladies in forum may get better ideas of the dresses :D

The women's dresses all have a dropped waistline - a style that was popular in 1920-1930. I've seen lots of my relatives in pictures with the belt around their hips. So it's possible the picture was taken in that time period.

Thanks June and Jaska for your analysis. I ran across an interesting web site while trying to identify the women's dress style and found one with very good examples from different time periods (although American):
