My dad's parents both left Finland in the early 1900s and settled in the USA. Matti Jaakonpoika Hovila, born Nov. 10, 1878, in Vimpeli, arrived on Ellis Island in 1904. Emma Granroth, born Feb. 10, 1889, in Petsamo, arrived in the USA from Canada in 1912 or 1913. They married in Monroe, Washington, in about 1920.

I have created Facebook group pages for each of my grandparents where I am posting pictures and other information we have about them. I would invite others who have photos or information about them or their ancestors to join as well. It is an open group, so you don't have to be a member to view the group page.

Matti's parents were Jaakko Juhonpoika Spangar, b March 18, 1855, in Vimpeli. His mother was Reetta Erkintytär Honkaniemi, born March 9, 1854 in Lappajärvi. We have a couple of photos of Reeta on his group page, and other family members as well. The address of the page is:

Emma Granroth's parents were Konrad Vilhelm Granroth, born May 13, 1844, and Saara Maria Niskala-Sanderberg, born 1855, died 1910. We don't have any pictures posted of her yet, but we will have them up soon. Her page is:http://www.facebook.com/groups/235258933168665?ap=1
