PAUL CHARLES RITOLA
September 14, 1937 ~ September 29, 2011

Longtime Battle Ground resident, Paul Charles Ritola, died on September 29, 2011 in Battle Ground, WA while doing what he truly enjoyed: operating heavy equipment. The oldest of five children, Paul was born on September 14, 1937 in Jamestown, ND to Charles and Sophie (Niska) Ritola. He was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Paul was known for his quiet humor and was blessed with an ability to operate heavy equipment. He served in the Air National Guard and was a member of the Battle Ground School Board for five years. Paul enjoyed Christian fellowship, spending time with his family and friends, farming, hay making, gardening and traveling. He was particularly beloved by his grandchildren and took great joy in the time he spent with them.

Paul is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lola (Levanen) Ritola, at home in Battle Ground, WA; five sons, James and Sally (Jolma) Ritola and Nels and Jane (Jolma) Ritola of Mason, WI, Richard and Judy (Koistinen) Ritola, Dennis and Jessica (Divine) Ritola and Gary and Melinda (Simonson) Ritola of Battle Ground, WA; three daughters, Serena and Dale Peterson of Hancock, MI, Rhonda and Steven Lipka of Yacolt, WA, and Rami Vanschleik (formerly Fran Ritola) of Lakewood, WA; three brothers, David and Lorraine (Lindberg) Ritola of Brush Prairie, WA, Edward and Mary (Hallstrom) Ritola of Woodland, WA, and Irvin and Ethel (Ruonavaara) Ritola of Yacolt, WA; and one sister, Rosemary and Les Hallstrom of Brush Prairie, WA. He was blessed with 56 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 16603 NE 142nd Avenue, Brush Prairie, WA at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011, with viewing at the church on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Burial will be at Elim Cemetery, Brush Prairie, WA.

A memorial fund has been set up at Riverview Savings Bank.
