Karen “Tieka” Alina Niemi, 58 of South St. Paul, formerly of Cloquet died Thursday, July 18, 2013 in her home.

She was born April 22, 1955 in Cloquet to Veikko and Dolly Niemi.

She grew up in Wright and graduated from Barnum High School in 1973. After graduation, she moved to Fairfax where she lived for three years before moving to Cloquet. She worked at Conwed and USG until 1987 and then at Lake Superior Paper until 2005 when she moved to South St. Paul. Karen was a huge fan of Trace Atkins.

Karen was preceded in death by her father, Veikko; her grandparents; brother, Recko; and nephew, Joe Niemi.

She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her mother, Dolly Niemi; sisters, Bonnie (Steve) Haluptzok, Sharon Lake, and Debbie (Keith) Goranson; brothers, David (Marianne) Niemi and Jay (Julie) Gronroos; nieces, Julianne Niemi and Robin Lake; nephews, Max Peterson and Eric Lake; great nephew, Max Glenn; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a lot of good friends; her two cats, Lucky Lu and Dolly Jo; and her special friend, John Vermeersch.

VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wright.
