Helen Linda Lahti, 91, of Duluth and formerly of Mahtowa, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in Bayshore Health Center.

She was born in Kettle River on March 4, 1923 to John and Helena Westerback.

Helen was raised in Kettle River, attended Kalavela School through the eighth grade, and attended Cromwell High School. In May of 1942 she married her husband, John Lahti.

She had a love for God and was a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church in Mahtowa. Helen was a very active person and she had many interests. She loved to bake, loved animals-especially dogs, and loved to play the accordion. Helen will be remembered as being a great hostess. She was very organized, and had a place for everything and her home was always kept neat and orderly. Helen wasnt afraid of hard work and she milked the cows for many years on their dairy farm. Her true passion was her family and she was a very loving and caring mother to her two children.

Helen is preceded in death by her daughter, Roxanne; three sisters, Martha Klegseth, Lillian Siltanen, and Ailie Tuomela; and two brothers, Arvo and Bill Westerback.

She is survived by her husband, John, of Duluth, and son, Gary, of Barnum.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, April 14, 2014 in the Salem Lutheran Church, Mahtowa. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Spring burial will be at Mount Salem Cemetery, Mahtowa. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
