Hello. I would like to know more about two relatives of mine that emigrated to America in early 1900's.

They were brothers Wilhelm and Jaakko (Jacob) Stark.

Here's what I already know:

Wilhelm Stark was born on 26.3.1883 in Ikaalinen. He was the first to emigrate. He can be found in the Ellis Island archive. He arrived on 1903 with the ship Teutonic. The record says that he was going to Glassport, PA. He soon came back to Finland for a while but returned to USA later. Wilhelm presumably later used the surname Mäenpää. He had a daughter Impi Mäenpää who was born in USA on 1.5.1907 and a son Jaakko Mäenpää who died on 27.5.1997 in Ohio.

Jaakko (Jacob) Stark was born on 30.7.1886 in Ikaalinen. He went to USA in 1906. He later used the surname Jokinen. An old letter received from him in 1947 says that his address was:

Jac Jokinen R D H I
Darset Ohio
USA

Any info of them would be greatly appreciated. Also it would be nice to find any living relatives.

There are lots of Maenpaa in OH on Ancestry.com.

The Jacob who died 27.5.1997 in Ohio died as Jacob Michael Maki, father Jack. The OH Birth Index has a Wiljo Jaakko Maenpaa born 3 Feb 1914 to Jacob (Jack) and Lempi Maenpaa. They are found in many census years in Conneaut, Ashtabula, OH. The only Impi Maenpaa I found in OH was born 1905 to Mikko and Liisa Maenpaa.

Here is an interesting obit for Jacob Michael Maki, born Maenpaa. Says he was born Finland and came to Superior, WI with his sister, no name given. Another obit has sister as Hilda. His father was there. There is a Family Tree on Ancestry with unsupported info stating Impi Maenpaa born and died in Finland. Father Wiljo, mother Matilda. Father died US, mother Finland. Family Tree for Jacob Michael Maki has him born 11 or 12 May 1912 Ikaalinen, Finland, died 27 May 1997 Brea, Cuyahoga, OH.

On another Family Tree on Ancestry, there is a Jacob Michael Maki with a sister Impi Maria Maki, says born 1907 in US and died 9 Nov 1974. Spouse Anselm Aronen 8 Feb 1889-10 Jan 1974. Another sister Hilda Maki Jul 1909-Dec 1944 NYC. Impi's info gives father as William Maki and mother as Mathilda Jarvenpaa. It may be when Jacob chose the name Maki, his siblings did also. Based on the obit giving him as 14 in 1927, both his sisters would be older, not younger, 1907, 1909.

It would appear that Jack Jokinen who crossed border in 1913 was not your Jack Jokinen. Although the ages match, his mother's name was Wilhelmina. Wilhelm and Jaakko were born to Efraim Stark and Ida Karolina Mattsdotter.

Thank you very much! It is amazing how much info you could find.

Regarding your last post, is all the following info then wrong? :

"Here is more about Jokinen family. 17 Jan 1913, Jack Jokinen crossed from Ontario, Canada to Sault Sainte Marie, MI, age 27 1886 from Tampere, Finland. Says in US before.

No. Everything except the first line is correct. It seems there were many Jokinen named Jack or Jacob. The only reason I found it wasn't him is the mother's name. I found Wilhelm and Jacob's birth on Hiski and saw mother's name was Ida. By the way, Wilhelm had a twin, Johannes. The info of Jacob's sons is correct.
