Finding Finns who settled in Norway

Many Northern Finns traveled West, and settled in Northern Norway. Norsk-Finns are sometimes referred to as Kvaen (Kvæn). In order to make life easier; when pressured by the government to become “Norwegianized”, they gave in. Many Finns, and Sami lost their original identities, and were from then on recorded as being ‘Norwegian’.

Sometime in December last year it was decided that Quarterly will be published via the Finlander forum in a digital format browsable using ordinary browser applications on your own PC or Mac. For some weeks we have hade the on-line version in a separate subforum on the Finlander discussion forum open for all. Everybody have thus had the chance to try out the method.

As you have seen the forum was closed today and you probably all got different kind of error messages etc.

What has happened?
The forum needed an update because we get really many spammer attacks every day and the new version much better takes care of them. Thus I have spent a good part of this Friday updating all the bits and pieces, backing up database and website etc. Hopefully this will work as planned.
