Submitting material to the Talko project
From SFHS
As defined only members have access to the Finlander Talko database. To become member one can apply for membership by submitting one's own gedcom file, ie. the own genealogy research to the common database.
- the Talko database lies behind passwords
- every member has a different login/password combination
- material must be submitted as
- living persons are filtered out and will not show as long as the birth year is properly defined for the living individual (then the age can be calculated if a death year is not defined)
- for living persons only the initials of the given names and the surname will be shown - as long as the birth year is properly defined
- export the gedcom with the reference information you have registered in your database
- send new gedcom -submissions when you have done modifications (for example 1-2 times per year)
Password distribution
Please do not pass along your passwords for the database without permissiom! All accesses are logged and eventually misuse from many different IP-adresses will lead to the deactivation of the user accout.
Errors in the material
Please also remember that the material in Talko is collections of the current research status for the different genealogists, thus every single collection contain errors! Do not rely 100% on any data before you have cross checked with others and if possible checked against primary sources.
As said on a Canadian website: Genealogy Without Sources is Mythology!
- "How can you tell if the information posted by individuals on Internet genealogy sites is valid? Some sites have sources, others don't. How do you know what, and when, to believe what you read online??
- A good rule of thumb is....
- Don't trust anything you find on the 'net (or elsewhere) if it doesn't have sources."
Reporting errors
Errors and questions can be discussed on the Finlander forum or directly with the person who submitted this material. That way the next new updated Talko -submission can contain the correct data.
Questions about Talko can be addressed to the
